The Labyrinth
I do not own the Charmed ones, I only write about them, all persons you dont know are mine. This is a lost bet story, I hope you all enjoy.
"OW! That hurt!" Paige exclaimed as she bounced off the wall. Looking at the formidable figure before her she gulped, looking for some way to get out of the predicament she was in. Distracted, she did not see the fist coming at her, catching her square in the face.
"Oh, Paige, I’m soo sorry." Phoebe said as she moved to help her sister.
It had been three months now since they had found out about each other. Three months of grief and joy. Losing one sister while finding another. It was hard, letting someone in while your heart felt like it had been shattered, but there was something about the unpredictable youngest that drew them to her.
Piper had fallen into a depression right after the funeral, while Phoebe had been to much in shock, and guilt, to do much of anything. For the most part, Paige had not pushed, wanting to know her sisters, yet at the same time knowing they too needed time. One night Piper had called her, frantic because she could not find Phoebe and she had know, instinctively, where she was.
Arriving at the cemetery, she saw the silhouette hunched on the ground by the head stone, her body wracked with sobs and moved to hold her. Standing there, holding her older sister as she grieved, she felt like an intruder, trying to take a place that was not hers, and one she was not accustom to.
When Phoebe had finally quieted, she had driven her home where Piper was waiting, having called her and told her that she was safe. Sitting on the couch, feeling even more out of place amidst all the family photos on the walls and mantel she watched them, wishing she too could feel the bond they shared.
Phoebe had final opened up about what had happened, why she had pulled away from them, the demon who had forced her to hide what she was doing from them and in the end, costing them more then they could have imagined.
Piper had not reacted like she thought she would, she had seen the now oldest sister lose her temper, yelling at Phoebe for her carelessness, her unwillingness to share, and blamed her for Prue’s death. Anger brought out the worst in her, and some of the things she had said had struck deep with in Paige.
"That’s enough!" she yelled, jumping to her feet. "I know I don’t know you, hell, I’m still reeling from all of this, but I do know you are both wrong! Phoebe should have told you, that’s true, but how can you sit there and judge her? She is the only one of you who remembers what happened when Shax’s attacked the first time. Leo told me about it, about everything that you have all gone through in the last four years."
"Have you ever once stopped to think about what it was like for her? Knowing you were dead, and that she was the only one who could bring you back? She did not even have to think about it, she just did it. She would, has, and probable will do anything for you. Just like Prue would have. Do you know how lucky that makes you! No, you obviously don’t." she said, getting right in Pipers face, causing the older woman to take a step back.
"And you, Phoebe, you have to learn to tell your sister when something is wrong, no matter what the consequences. You try to take too much on your self, like when you hid the truth about Cole not really being vanquished. Look where that got you. You can not lie to use, about anything, to do with magic. I’m still new to all of this mumbo jumbo but even I know how dangerous it can be. If I can’t trust you to tell me when something is wrong, how can we ever learn to bond? From everything I have heard, and seen, the only thing that can defeat the Power of Three is us."
With that she had grabbed her purse, slamming the door as she walked out. Now it was up to them to forgive, and heal, each other.
"Where is she!" he roared at his aide.
"I… I don’t know, she ported again."
"Damn it!" he yelled, swiping everything off the table with his arm. "Find her trainer then, I will NOT lose to them again. They have messed with my plans for the last time. The Sentinels will pay, even if I have to kill them all."
"Calm yourself!" a female spoke up from where she sat. "He was my son as well, and I too want vengeance on her, but if we act rashly, we will lose."
"Mistress?" a voice asked fearfully.
"What is it now?"
"I… we, we think we know where she went." The smaller pack member said, not daring to look at the alpha female.
"Where!"
"She… she dropped this. We think we can.. can track her now."
"Do it, but when you find that Sentinel, she will pay, I will have her life!"
Piper turned off the oven, removing the turkey from inside and setting it on the counter. Somehow Leo had talked her into making the dinner, their first Thanksgiving without the oldest, but her heart was not really into it. She did not feel all that thankful, her life was turned upside down now, she was the oldest. Pulling open the drawer, she saw something pushed under the tray holding the silverware and pulling it out, she felt the familiar ache.
Prue had always started her shopping early, for everything, including cards, and now she held what was probable the last one she would ever get from her. Opening it, she saw that it was not even signed, but it was addressed on the outside, probable so that she could remember what sister it had been for. It was for her and Leo.
Phoebe walked in, just in time to see Piper fall to her knee’s clutching something in her hand. Her heart broke, seeing the sensitive older sister she had always admired for her strength of heart break down yet again, and with out needing to be told, she knew why.
"I miss her too." Phoebe said, hugging her, "she loved the holidays, more so when she could do something for us."
"Why does it still hurt so much?"
"Because we love her."
"Do you.. do you think she will think we have forgotten her?" Piper asked, wiping a tear away.
"Are you kidding, she’s probably looking down on us right now, wondering why we are keeping our guests waiting." Phoebe said, trying to lighten the mood. Taking the card, she placed it reverently on the kitchen table for later, when they would have time to cry together.
"I don’t want to do this."
"I know sweetie, but I think she would want us too."
Standing, Piper went to the sink, washing her face with the cool water and followed Phoebe out into the dinning room. Seated around the table, Cole, Leo, Darryl, Victor and Paige waited, each looking a bit lost, but trying not to show it.
Cole had tried his best to be there for them, his evil all but gone thanks to the love of a truly remarkable woman. He had even made nice with Victor, knowing that the man, for all his faults, had done what he thought was best when they had been younger. The only one in the room who seemed uncomfortable with him now was this new sister.
Darryl had changed the most in the last few months Cole could not help feeling, looking at the inspector. He no longer seemed scared of their magic, now, he helped even more, trying to make it up to the sisters Cole suspected. The guilt was still evident in his eye’s, every time he walked into the house.
"We have her sire." One of them said, running into the den.
"Where!"
"She is on the mortal plane."
"Good, that will make this even sweeter as she is more vulnerable there."
"I will come with you my mate." She said, looking at him. "Together we will teach her what it means to mess with the Pack."
Reaching behind him, he grabbed a potion as she took his hand, tossing it on the ground at their feet, opening a portal and falling through.
She walked slowly down the street, the darkness hiding her face as she thought longingly of her family. She could not join them as she desired, to many things held her back. Her life was in turmoil, but there was one place she could go, she just had to wait for the woman to return. In her quiet contemplation she never heard them coming.
They ran on soft padded feet, nose to the ground, tracking her by sent. Smelling the trail as it got fresher, he resisted the urge to howl, not wanting his prey to escape yet again. Slowing as the scent got even fresher he willed the change, going from four feet to two with out faltering, beside him his mate continued as she was.
All he needed was one clear shot, one chance to deliver his vengeance and then he would mourn his son, killed by the Sentinel, a trainee at that. The boy had shown great promise, killing his litter mates at an early age. Now they would have to start all over if they hoped to control their realm. Up ahead he saw movement.
"Is that her?" he asked, knowing his mate heard him and understood he did not speak even as loud as a whisper. She looked at him, a silent snarl on her lips.
She turned, feeling something, not sure what but she never completed the motion as something large and furry struck her in the side, knocking her to the ground. Pain shot through her as she felt something tear at her, shaking her arm that was suddenly on fire. Even as she realized what it was, teeth clamped down on her leg ripping at the flesh.
She screamed in pain as claws raked her back and stomach as she tried to roll away, but it was futile, they would not let her go. When she felt the hot breath on her neck she panicked and using her power, she ported, leaving them grasping at air. She could have sworn she even heard the sound of there teeth clicking together where her throat had been.
The last thought she had as she felt her powers work was of her family, she wished she could have told them one last time she loved them. She felt her body moving through space, and then the hard strike of hitting something, the sound of surprise, and then nothing as she succumbed to the release of the darkness that beckoned.
"What the hell!" Piper yelled as a flash of light appeared right over the table and something large dropped out of hit, hitting the center of the elegantly set table, breaking it. All around her the others jumped back startled.
Leo, acting on his instincts was the first to rush forward, pulling the table cloth of the person laying there. What he saw caused him to falter, pulling back in surprise. He knew this person, but, it was impossible. She was dead.
"Leo, what is it?" Piper asked, coming to his side. As she too caught sight of the person laying there, her hand covered her mouth and her face paled. "Prue." She said, so quietly it was lost to the others.
Victor and Darryl had backed off, not knowing what was going on but seeing their reactions Victor took a step forward, the sight of his daughter laying there, bleeding, he rushed forward, pulling her too him, tears streaming freely down his face.
"Heal her!" he ordered grabbing Leo by the arm, placing his hand over the wounds he could see on her arm, the sight of the mangled flesh making him sick.
Jolted into action, Leo closed his eye’s, concentrating, letting his love for his sister-in-law fill him, he could feel his powers growing, reaching out, but then, like a switch had been thrown, it stopped. A look of disbelief clouded his face as he opened his eye’s looking down at the woman in front of him.
"Leo, what are you doing!?" Victor said when he pulled his hands back.
"I.. I can’t heal her." He told him, looking at hi hands like he had been betrayed.
"No! I will NOT lose her again!" Piper cried, pushing her husband aside she grabbed a napkin, pressing it against the bloody mess that was Prue’s arm. "Phoebe, Paige, help me." She ordered.
Phoebe grabbed another napkin, using it on the torn flesh of her sisters leg while Paige ran for the stairs to get the medical kit they always kept handy. Supplies in hand, she ran back down the stairs, following the sound of voices into the living room.
"We need to get her to the hospital!" Victor was saying, his voice trembling a bit.
"We can’t, she died, there will be to many questions." Leo told him.
"I have some supplies." Paige said, skidding to a stop beside where Leo knelt, checking Prue over.
"Leo, do you know what your doing?" Phoebe asked him as he took the box from Paige.
Digging through it, Leo didn’t answer, to busy trying to recall all that he had learned as a medic. Though none of the wounds looked life threatening, they were bleeding freely, and he knew he had to get it stopped. Getting a hand full of gauze, he used it to put pressure on the worst of the bleeding, directing Phoebe as he did.
Cole mean while had moved back a little ways, trying to stay out of their way while keeping his senses sharp, waiting for what ever had done this to attack.
"Cole, what are you doing?" Darryl asked, seeing the energy ball held in the reformed demons hand.
"I don’t know what’s going on, but I’m not going to let what ever did that catch them while they are busy." He told the man he had come to think of as a friend. Realizing Cole was correct, Darryl drew his gun, moving to the other side of the room, knowing his weapon would most likely be useless, but feeling better with it in his hand.
It seemed like forever to the sisters as they helped Leo but finally he had stopped all the bleeding, and with Victors help, they moved Prue upstairs to Paige’s room, laying her on the bed. The sisters then ushered the men out and as gently as they could, they removed the bloody torn clothes, putting a soft, large shirt on her.
"How, why?" Phoebe asked, sitting on the bed, holding Prue’s hand as she looked at her other sisters. Trying to figure out what was going on.
"I don’t know, but we will get some answers. Leo!" Piper yelled.
"What? Is she awake?" her husband asked, rushing in with the others right behind him.
"No, but you," she said, poking him in the chest, "are going to go talk to THEM and get some answers, and you had better have them when you come back! Now go, orb." She told him.
Looking at her, his heart ached, knowing she was more upset then she let on, trying to be strong while all she wanted to do was break down and cry. He vowed to himself he would find out just what was going on, even if he had to beat it out of someone. Concentrating, he vanished in a shower of blue white lights.
She could hear voices, but they were muffled as though they were far away, that was her first hint of awareness. The second was pain, sharp, pounding pain and panic set in. Where was she? Who was talking? Trying not to move, she tried to clear her thoughts, straining to make out the voices. Was that? Could it be? "Phoebe?"
"Prue?! Prue, sweetie, can you hear me?" a voice cried anxiously, as a soft feathery touch brushed her cheek.
"Open your eye’s Prue, you can do it." The sweet voice of her younger sister said, as a single drop of wetness fell on her hand.
"Tired." She mumbled, knowing she was safe, for now, as she let herself fall back into the realm of darkness where no pain or fear was felt.
Victor stood, stretching his arms over his head, working the kinks out as he started to pace. He wanted to be there for his girls, having spent most of their lives missing. He had not realized just how much he had truly missed out on until it was to late, but he was determined not to lose them again.
Pacing the hall, he looked in the room every time he passed, wanting to join them yet afraid to. What would she say? Would she want him there? Thoughts whirled around his head, making his thoughts spin out of control. Turning as he reached the stairs, he had only gone two steps when he saw the tell tale glow of someone orbing and he rushed to see if it was Leo.
"Well?" Piper asked, seeing her husband. "What did they say, why didn’t they let you heal her!"
"She is a Sentinel. And I could heal her because my powers don’t work on them."
"What do you mean your powers don’t work on them! She’s still our sister and your charge!" Phoebe said, standing up.
"No, when she..died, she was fulfilling her own destiny. A destiny that included sacrificing her life for another." He told them, walking over to the bed, a look of respect on his face as he looked down at the woman in the bed.
"What is a Sentinel?" Piper asked him.
"A, guardian, if you will, between our plain of existence and others. Their job is to keep the plains separate, for if any were to cross over, the balance could shift, causing chaos."
"Is that why we were not allowed to see her? For their precious balance?!" Piper asked, getting angry.
"No, in time, you would have seen her again, when you were ready. You were, are, still mourning her, and it would have been to painful for you."
"Painful, painful does not even begin to describe how we feel!"
"Piper, please," he said, holding her close as sobs shook her. "It would have been cruel for you to see her and if she had not been hurt, she most likely would not have
