Prue and Piper let the sunlight hit them. They were currently standing in the middle of the cemetery, listening to the preacher comment about their beloved mother. The two girls were so lost in their own thoughts that they never heard the words that surrounded them it sounded like one big, continuous, drone, that was never ceasing. Finally it ended and the mourners were offering their condolences for the loss of the mother that they had known for twenty-one years. When the last one had left, Leo and Andy went to their respective wives. “Come on honey,” Leo cooed in Piper’s ear. “Let’s go over to the hospital now. Piper nodded and the four got into Piper’s jeep. Driving to the hospital two things were on everyone’s mind.

The four stood at the nurse’s station on the maternity ward. “Hello Piper,” Nurse Grey said kindly to her. “If you and Prue will come with me, I’ll set the two of you up.” Prue nodded and looked at Andy. “Stay here you big chicken,” she said with a slight smile. “Don’t worry, Prue I’ll try and talk some sense into him,” Leo reassured his sister-in-law. Prue nodded as she gave her purse to Andy and Piper gave hers to Leo. Nurse Grey led the sisters down the hall to a prep room before continuing on to their intended destination. As they stood in the prep room, Prue gripped her sisters hand tightly. This was her other half, the one who knew everything about her and she never even had to say a word. Piper could feel the torment her sister was going through just by holding her hand. Piper was going through the same thing. This was a bond that the two shared as twins. “We’ll be okay Prue,” she said kindly. Once Nurse Grey had each girl in a gown, she lead them through to the Infant Intensive Care Unit.

“Alright girls, you just sit here and I’ll be right back. Do either of you have a preference?” she smiled. Prue shook her head and smiled at Piper. That was her twin and as long as she had her twin, she could handle anything. “Alright then, sit over there,” she directed as she walked over to the cupboard. She pulled out two sterile bottles and filled them with formula. The bottles were so tiny, Prue always wondered if it did any good at all sometimes. Handing each girl a four-ounce bottle, she went over to the incubator. “Come with me little one, your big sisters are here to cuddle you,” the nurse said. She took one little girl out and handed her to Prue. “Hello miss Phoebe Renee,” Prue said as she cradled the tiny girl in her arms. Nurse Grey was now back at Piper’s side with another little pink bundle to give to Piper. “My little Paige Rylee,” Piper cooed as she held her baby sister. “And how are you two doing today?” Prue asked them. The babies gurgled at them in unison. Piper giggled and smiled at her own twin. “We twins do talking unison don’t we?” Prue nodded and smiled at the baby in her arms. “Okay let’s try eating something.” The older girls pressed the bottle to the baby’s mouth and each one happily drank her formula.

Phoebe was the first done and Prue looked to Piper. “Beat ya!” she giggled. “This is lunch not a race,” Piper scolded. “Right my little one,” she cooed at her baby sister. Prue gently pulled the tiny baby so she was propped over her shoulder and rubbed Phoebe’s back to get her to burp. Prue stayed that way for a while and then watched as Piper started to burp Paige. Piper carefully stood and started pacing as she gently patted the baby’s back. Paige and Phoebe were so tiny, that Prue and Piper were always amazed.

Prue and Piper went to the cafeteria to find their husbands sharing thoughts and lunch. “So ladies,” Andy said as he pulled his wife to his lap. “Is everything okay for now?” Prue nodded and Piper spoke for her. “Two little girls sleeping peacefully and contentedly,” she confirmed. Leo also pulled Piper to his lap and rubbed her back. “When do we get to take them home?” he asked with a smile. Piper smiled and giggled at her sister. “I got the good brother,” she laughed. “No you got the dead one,” Prue corrected her. “They are both excellent,” Prue stated. “Leo, we are not rushing this,” Piper said firmly. “Those two are going to get better according to hospital standards and that means when they are eight weeks old then they can come home.” “And not a day before,” Prue finished for her. Andy smiled at his brother. “Twins!” he scoffed. “Alright come on let’s go!” Prue said as the two girls stood pulling their husbands to their feet.

The ride in Piper’s jeep was a quiet affair. Mixed emotions filled the air and you could cut the tension with a knife. Leo was driving and Piper sat up front next to him, while Andy and Prue sat in the back together. Prue leaned i
