“Okay Joshua’s bottle are in the side pocket,” Piper explained,“he should get another one at about eight tonight. Melinda brought some toys in her bag, other than that are you set?”
“I’m fine Piper,” Phoebe assured, “I am the one gifted with kids remember? Prue needs the speech.”
“I got everything under control,” Prue mumbled as she pulled our a diaper from the bag, “except what is this for?”
Piper’s eyes flashed fear then she laughed, “Oh Prue, wow I thought you were serious.” Piper bent down to kiss her three year old daughter. “Be good Melinda,” Piper said.
“Bye bye,” Melinda grinned and waved. Next Piper carefully handed her seven month old son to Phoebe. He smiled at her and cooed. Piper laughed and showered his little head with kisses.
“Bye sweetie,” she whispered. “Okay well Leo is waiting. Thank you so much guys.”
“No problem, what are aunts for anyway?” Phoebe said as she pushed a hesitant Piper out of the door, “Don’t worry, have fun.” Piper nodded and left the manor to join Leo in the car. Phoebe shut the door and turned back to Prue who was still holding the diaper and looking confused.
“I’m serious,” Prue said quietly, “what is this thing?”
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
“A diaper Prue,” Phoebe sighed and slapped her forehead, “you suck at this!” As soon as Phoebe hit herself Joshua burst into giggles. Phoebe grinned. “You like that huh?” She hit herself again and Joshua laughed again. Phoebe turned to Prue, “Let’s see if it works for you.” Before Prue could react Phoebe had smacked her upside the head. Joshua’s giggles made his face turn red.
Prue narrowed her eyes, “Phoebe Halliwell if you do that again I will have this kid laughing all night while I kick your....”
“Ahhh,” Phoebe jumped in, glancing pointedly with Melinda who was intently watching her aunts.
“I will kick you right out of this house,” Prue fixed quickly then she said lowly, “Don’t mess with me.”
Phoebe grinned, not at all intimidated by her sister, “Okay well since you have such knowledge of kids why don’t I leave them with you for just a minute while I go find a blanket to lay Josh down on.”
Prue’s eyes widened, “What? By myself.”
“Prue they’re kids,” Phoebe said, “not rabid dogs.”
“I could handle a rabid dog,” Prue muttered as Phoebe gave her nephew to Prue. Phoebe smiled as Josh grabbed at Prue’s hair and yanked.
“See he likes you,” she grinned and skipped away.
Prue frowned as she stared at the baby in her arms. Joshua had bright brown eyes that always seemed to smile. His hair was a tuft of gold and he had Leo’s wide smile and good looks. Prue sat down on the couch and situated her nephew in her lap. Melinda pulled herself up onto the couch next to her aunt. Prue always marveled at how gorgeous Melinda was, even if she’d seen her in the future it was still hard to believe that one of her sisters actually had such a beautiful child. Melinda’s eyes were green like Leo’s and she had hair just like Piper’s that flowed beautifully down to her thin shoulders.
“Paady,” Melinda said suddenly, looking urgently at Prue.
“What?” Prue asked again.
“Paddy!”
“Pa tee? You want to have a party?” Prue helped. But Melinda shook her head and jumped up from the couch. She stomped her foot.
“Paaaadddyyy,” Melinda enunciated for her aunt. Prue tried desperately to keep in her giggles, but she had to no idea what her neice was trying to tell her.
“Daddy?” Prue tried, “Your dad and mom went to dinner Mel.”
“No,” Melinda’s eyes were filling with tears now, “Paady!”
“I’m sorry sweetie, I don’t know what you’re saying,” Prue sighed, “Phoebe get in here!”
“Prue what do you.....” Phoebe entered the room but stopped. Prue glanced around and saw the reason, a yellow puddle had formed at Melinda’s feet and she began to cry.
“Oh potty,” Prue chuckled, “I got it now.”
“Oh geez,” Phoebe shook her head, “Prue I leave you alone for two seconds!”
“What?” Prue exclaimed, “I couldn’t understand what she was saying. I’m a babysitter not a three year old translation dictionary.”
Phoebe growled and turned to Melinda, “Come on sweetie, it’s okay. Let’s get you cleaned up and changed out of those clothes.” Phoebe held out her hand and Melinda took it, wiping at her tears. Phoebe glanced at Prue, “Do you think you can handle just Josh while I give her a bath?”
“Sure I guess,” Prue said as she glanced at the baby in her lap who was contently staring at his hands.
“Good,” Phoebe said, “I’ll be upstairs in your bathroom if you need me.”
“My bathroom,” Prue whinned, “why can’t you do it in the hall bathroom?”
“Because you let her pee on the floor,” Phoebe hissed. “You should probably clean that up too, before it seeps into the wood.”
Prue made a face, “That’s gross.” Phoebe whirled around, her eyes flaming but Prue just held up her hand. “I’ll clean it up!”

“Wa wa,” Melinda grinned as she splashed in the bathtub, “Hot.”
“Is it too hot?” Phoebe asked patiently as she rubbed soap onto the rag.
“No,” Melinda shook her head, “Good.”
“Okay then,” Phoebe smiled, “Watch out here I come!” Melinda giggled as Phoebe attacked her with the soapy rag. Phoebe was about to rinse Melinda off when Prue’s urgent cry met her ears.
“Phoebe!”
“Prue can it wait?” Phoebe yelled back.
“I can’t find Josh!”
“What?” Phoebe jumped up and ran to the bathroom door, “Melinda you okay for just a minute? I’ll leave the door open, you yell if you need me okay?”
“Kay,” Melinda answered.
Phoebe sprinted down the steps and into the living room. The puddle on the floor was gone but Prue’s lap was empty. Her older sister was staring at the floor where the blanket and some of Josh’s toys were strewn about. She bit her lip when Phoebe ran in.
“I only left for a second to get a towel and...”
“Where is he!” Phoebe demanded.
“Well if I knew I wouldn’t have called,” Prue spat back.
Phoebe threw her hands in the air in exasperation at her sister’s sarcasm, “Just help me find him, he couldn’t have gone very far. He can only scoot.”
“I’ll check the hall,” Prue volunteered.
“I’ll keep looking in here,” Phoebe decided, “maybe he’s hiding.”
Prue nodded and the sisters seperated. Phoebe glanced under the coffee table, nothing. She checked behind the couch and found nothing. She also checked behind the plant, in the fireplace. When she’d been searching for a few minutes she called to Prue.
“Anything?”
“Not yet,” was the reply.
Phoebe was about to give up and try the kitchen when suddenly her ears picked up on a slight whimpering. Phoebe glanced around and then heard it again. She ducked to the ground and looked under the couch, sure enough her nephew’s scared face was staring back at her. Phoebe groaned as she reached under the couch and was able to grab her nephew’s arm and pull him out. Other than being dusty and scared the baby seemed all right.
“Prue I got him,” Phoebe hollered.
“Thank God,” Prue entered the room, obviously relieved, “Where was he?”
“Under the couch.”
“Under...like completely under?” Prue seemed impressed. This caused Phoebe to laugh.
“You are the worst babysitter ever,” Phoebe announced teasingly.
Prue was about to protest but didn’t have the chance. A streak ran through the room and threw open the kitchen door, the giggles floating in the air behind her. Prue’s eyebrows shot up in surprise as Phoebe quickly shoved Josh toward her and yelped.
“Was that Melinda?” she exclaimed.
Prue smirked, “Whose the bad babysitter now Pheebs?”
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
“Melinda what are you doing?” Phoebe asked as she chased after her naked neice in the kitchen. Melinda’s brown hair lifted off her shoulders as she ran on chubby legs away from her aunt.
“Air dwy,” Melinda giggled as Phoebe caught her and sweeped her up into her arms.
“Air dry huh?” Phoebe chuckled, “Your daddy must have told you that to aggrivate your mom.”
“Mommy face get wed,” Melinda continued with a big grin.
“I bet your daddy got a beating for teaching you that,” Phoebe said to herself as she carried Melinda back into the hallway and toward the stairs.
Once she’d gotten Melinda back into the bathroom she toweled off the parts of Melinda that weren’t really dry and found the pajamas that Piper had packed. Melinda put on the pajamas without much of a struggle but getting her to sit still while Phoebe brushed her hair was a little bit more challenging.
“Ouch,” Melinda cried, “That hurted.”
“I’m sorry,” Phoebe said with less patience than she’d wanted, “you won’t sit still.”
Melinda’s eyes filled with tears and her chin trembled, “I want mama.”
“Oh sweetie,” Phoebe sighed as she sat down on the toilet and pulled her neice onto her lap, “I’m almost done and then we can go eat some ice cream okay?”
Melinda nodded and sniffled, “Okay.”
“Okay,” Phoebe smiled and finished brushing through Melinda’s thick hair as gently as she could manage. When she was finally finished she picked her neice up and went into the living room. But her sister was nowhere to be found. She glanced at the clock and saw that it was eight, she figured Prue was fixing Josh’s bottle. Phoebe sighed and set Melinda on the ground to pick up Josh, who was playing on the blanket.
“Prue?” Phoebe called.
“In the kitchen,” Prue replied.
Phoebe let out a frustrated breath and whispered to herself, “You’d think she’d learn her lesson.”
Phoebe walked into the kitchen. Prue was staring at a bottle in her hands, turning it around and around. She looked up when Phoebe entered and frowned. She held up the bottle for Phoebe to see.
“This stupid thing doesn’t have any directions,” Prue complained.
Phoebe tried hard not to laugh, “Prue it’s a bottle, I think the people who make it hope that whoever is dumb enough to have kids is at least smart enough to know how to fix a bottle.” Phoebe shook her head, “I thought you had this whole “mom” thing down pat.”
“I can be a mom to anyone that can speak,” Prue replied, “Until then, I’m better off just watching.”
“Just run some hot water in a jar and stick the bottle in to let it heat up,” Phoebe instructed, “it’ll take a minute. I’ll be with them in the living room. You gonna be okay in here by yourself?”
Prue gave her sister a look, “I’ll be fine thank you. You’re the one who lets the kids run naked through the house.”
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
“Phoebe I think it’s ready,” Prue said as she walked into the living room with the bottle in a rag in her hands.
“Test it on your arm,” Phoebe ordered.
“What?” Prue said, “Why?”
“Just do it,” Phoebe said impatiently.
“Okay fine but..” Prue said as she sprinkled the bottle against her arm. She screeched when the milk hit her skin, “Ouch!”
“That’s why you test it,” Phoebe smirked.
“Well, it’s gotta cool down now,” Prue said. She set the bottle on the table and reached for Melinda. “You all clean now sweet girl?”
“All clean,” Melinda smiled, “Paady.”
“Yes I know what that means now don’t I?” Prue smiled but Melinda shook her head.
“Paady.”
“I know honey,” Prue nodded. “It means you have to go to the bathroom.”
“Prue I think she needs to go again,” Phoebe helped.
“Oh,” Prue stammered, “Well ummm...come on then.” Prue stood up and held her hand out to her neice. Melinda took it and let Prue lead her to the hall bathroom.
“Here we are,” Prue smiled as she let go of Melinda’s hand
“Come in,” Melinda explained as she tugged on Prue’s arm.
“No that’s okay,” Prue said, “Go potty by yourself.”
“Come in!”
“Okay fine,” Prue sighed as she walked into the bathroom and shut the door. Melinda seemed content as she pulled down her pants and pulled herself onto the toilet. She’d been sitting there a minute when Prue made a face.
“Ewww,” she groaned.
“Number two,” Melinda said and then she smiled.
“Yeah I ummm...smell that,” Prue mumbled. “Can I go outside now?”
“No!” Melinda exclaimed.
“Okay, okay,” Prue sighed. After a few more seconds Melinda looked up at Prue expectantly and said.
“All done.”
“Good for you,” Prue smiled, “Don’t forget to wash your hands.”
Melinda looked confused, “Wipe.”
“Excuse me?” Prue said, her eyes widening, “Oh no honey. Look here’s some toilet paper,” she pulled some paper off the roll and put it into her neice’s hand, “You can do it yourself, can’t you big girl?”
Melinda’s lip quivered and suddenly she was crying, loudly. Prue groaned and threw her hands over her ears as her neice’s screams got louder. Prue finally threw her hands up in the air in defeat and yanked a wad of toilet paper off the roll.
“Bend over,” she demanded. Melinda smiled.
After Prue had cleaned Melinda up she washed her hands. Melinda washed her hands too and finally the two appeared back in the living room. Phoebe was on the couch, giving Joshua his bottle. Her eyebrows raised in question when she noticed them.
“What took so long?” she asked.
“She went number two,” Prue said tightly, “and I got to wipe.”
Phoebe burst into hysterical laughter. Prue frowned and smacked her sister on the head. Josh spit out his bottle and giggled. Prue smiled and hit Phoebe again. Again her nephew burst into giggles. Prue reached to do it a third time but Phoebe caught her arm.
“Okay poopy hands,” Phoebe said playfully, “you hit me again and I’ll let you finish feeding him.”
It worked because Prue dropped her hands into her lap. She picked up the remote and was flipping through the channels when Melinda made a yelping noise and ran to the television, pressing her nose against the glass.
“Cartoons,” she smiled.
“No Mel,” Prue said sternly, “It’s Thursday, your Aunt Prue’s favorite show is on tonight.”
“Cartoons,” Melinda repeated patiently.
“You better let her watch them Prue,” Phoebe said, “she’ll cry again.”
“Fine,” Prue grumpily agreed as she tossed the remote aside and crossed her arms across her face.
Phoebe finally finished feeding Josh. She lifted him toward her shoulder to burb him but made a face. Prue caught wind of the smell too and groaned.
“Not again,” she moaned, scooting as far to the end of the couch as she could.
Phoebe frowned and turned anxiously toward Prue, “You know since you’re so good at this...”
“Not a chance,” Prue interupted, “One dirty butt a night is my limit.”
“Fine,” Phoebe growled.
Phoebe dug into the diaper bag and pulled out the changing mat. She unrolled it across the floor and laid her nephew down. Phoebe pulled out a diaper and wet wipes. She unsnapped Joshua’s overalls and changed him as quickly as she could. It took her a minute to snap him back up, but finally she was done and she smiled triumphantly.
“He didn’t even pee on me,” Phoebe said, “we’re getting good.”
Prue nodded and looked at Melinda who was quietly watching the television, “Piece of cake.”
“Okay,” Phoebe said as she lifted her nephew, “You burp him while I wash out the bottle and throw this away.”
“Sure,” Prue agreed as she took Josh and shifted him to her shoulder. She began to pat his back. Nothing happened for a few seconds and then all of a sudden Josh burped. Prue was about to praise him when she felt something warm running down her back. Prue screamed, making Melinda jump and Phoebe rush into the room.
“What?”
“He puked on me,” Prue whinned tearfully. Phoebe’s eyes seemed sympathetic but an amused grin spread across her face. “It’s not funny. I have to take a shower.”
“Okay but hurry up,” Phoebe agreed as she took her nephew back, “Piper should be home any minute and I want her to think this went well.”
“Why is that again?” Prue asked.
“So she lets us keep watching them,” Phoebe explained, “duh.”
“Oh,” Prue made a sarcastic face, “Riiiight.”
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
The doorbell broke through Phoebe’s thoughts. Prue looked up eagerly from her seat on the couch. She’d just gotten back from her shower. Melinda was playing on the floor and Joshua was asleep in Phoebe’s arms.
“Come in,” Phoebe called.
Piper pushed open the door and walked into the living room, a big smile across her face. Melinda jumped up and ran to her mother, wrapping her arms around Piper’s legs. Piper smiled as she reached down and ran her hand through her daughter’s hair, kissing her on the forehead.
“Hey sweetie,” she greeted, “Did you have fun?”
“Yeah,” Melinda nodded, “Go home now?”
“Yes,” Piper nodded, “We’re going to go home now and get you to sleep.” Piper glanced up at her sisters. Phoebe was buckling Joshua into her carseat and Prue already had the diaper bag packed and ready to go. Piper looked worried, “How were they?”
Phoebe and Prue shared a look and then answered in unsion, “Perfect.”
Relief washed across Piper’s face, “I’m so glad.” She swung the diaper bag onto her shoulder and picked up the carrier seat. With her free hand she pulled Melinda toward th door, her sisters followed.
“We’ll have to do it again then,” Piper suggsted.
“Definitely,” Phoebe agreed.
“Sure anytime,” Prue added.
“Thank you so much,” Piper smiled, “I love you guys.”
Piper squeezed through the door. Her sisters watched as she loaded her children into the jeep and got into the front seat herself. They waited until Leo had pulled out of the driveway and disappeared down Prescott street to close the door.
“We’re not going to do that again right?” Prue checked.
“Not anytime soon,” Phoebe agreed. They stared at each other for a second, unsure of what to do next. “So...wanna go to sleep early tonight?” Phoebe suggested wearily.
Prue threw her arm around her little sister’s shoulders and steered them both toward the steps, “You read my mind.”
