disclaimer. You recognize the name it ain’t mine"Pwue? We having a mummy day tomorrow. Can mummy come?" asked little Phoebe as soon as she came back from pre-school. Grabbing a cookie off the plate, looking at Prue, with confusion in her eyes. Thoughts went through her little mind. Why can't mummy come? Don't she love her? Phoebe waited for the answer but then she saw Prue struggled to try to explain in the best way.
"Pwue, don't she love me?" she asked, her bottom lips was trembling, a sign that she was going to cry.
"Sweetie, she does. In fact she loves you so much and she will always be here." Said Prue as she tapped at Phoebe's chest where her heart is.
"Then why don't she come? Everyone bringing their mummys." She asked, finishing the cookie, she crawled up on to Prue's laps. She wanted to be held and feel safe.
"She can't. If she could then she would be there tomorrow but she can't." sighed Prue, they have been over this so many times that she don't even know if her little sister know what she is saying.
"Where is she? Me fetch her." Smiles Phoebe, thinking that mummy is just playing hide and seek.
"She not here. She not coming back." Prue was getting angry and tired of explaining her mother's death to her kid sister. She was mad at her mum for leaving her, looking after Phoebe. For going away with out saying a goodbye. She was mad with her mum for so many reasons.
Phoebe just looked at her, hoping that Prue is teasing, that it just a game, nothing else.
"Pwue. Who my mummy?" she asked, she didn't like the idea of not having a mum when everyone else does.
"Nobody. You are on your own. So will you just shut up!" yelled Prue, she not wanting to talk about her mother.
Phoebe just looked at her with tears in her eyes, she went to find Piper, she will know what to do. Phoebe's little mind thought.
But Piper did not want to talk either, she was too busy with her homework.
Phoebe was angry by all this fuss just about her mother, surely she must be somewhere in the house, hiding. She ran as fast as her little legs will carry her.
Few hours later
"Prue, have you see Phoebe?" asked Piper, it was dinnertime.
"No." that all the answer Piper needed to know that her little sister is
missing.
Looking at Prue, she begged with her eyes to help her find their little sister. Prue refused, she just turned around and simply said, "she is probably looking for mum in here. She won't go far."
"Fine! I will go and find her myself." Moaned Piper as she went off in search of Phoebe.
Prue looked after her sister, deep down inside she was feeling how Phoebe is feeling. Confused about their mum, thinking it just an game but there a difference Prue knew she is not coming back, she have gone to heaven.
"Phoebe! Where are you?" called Piper as she peeked in Phoebe's room.
Nothing. She kept walking down the hall, closer and closer to their mother's room. Her heart starting to beat faster, maybe mum is in there. She can hear her! Running to the room, looking inside with a great big hope in her heart, it soon sank when she saw that it was just Phoebe. She was looking for her mum, thinking she might take a nap. She cried and look at Piper and said three words that make Piper cry - "I need her."
"Sweet girl, I know, me too."
Phoebe just stares at her in awe, touching her face.
"Mummy won't want you to cry. Pipe. Don't cry for mummy." She said as she grabbed Piper's hand and led her to the kitchen.
Prue looked up when she heard something coming in the room, sighing she is secretly relieved that Piper found Phoebe. However she remains quiet and says nothing. No one did. Phoebe played with her food. Piper left hers uneaten. Prue ate her slowly.
"Phoebe?" the silence was broken by Prue.
"yeah." answer Phoebe, thinking that Prue might yelled at her for not eating.
"You don't have to go to school tomorrow."
"No, I am going. And I am going to bed now too" she got up, kissed Piper goodnight and hugged Prue.
The night came and went so quickly. Morning came, Then the time to go to school came.
Outside the school gate, Prue trying to get Phoebe to change her mind by explaining that children won't understand if she went to school alone but she was not afraid, she knew what to say to her classmate but still Prue worried. Phoebe just gave her a smile and skipped off leaving a trail of confused kids behind. Prue decided to go in and listen through the door.
The bell went off, kids were screaming pulling their mum's along. But Phoebe just held her head high and walked to the classroom all by herself.
At that moment Prue felt proud of Phoebe, following her, She stopped at the door and waited to listened for it to become Pheoebe's turn.
When it was Phoebe's turn she was eager to tell them all about a mum, a mum that she can rarely remember, a mum who never called, a mum who she knew that she will never see again.
There were mummies along the wall in back for everyone to meet
Children squirming impatiently anxious in their seats.
One by one the teacher called the pupil to come and talk to the class about their mum, time passed slowly. More kids started wondering who Phoebe's mum was and where she was at. One boy at the back call out, "Where's her mummy at?"
"She probably doesn't have one," another student dared to shout but only having his mum slap his hand.
And a voice fast at the front, a mummy say "Looks like another deadbeat mum too busy to waste her day."
Phoebe just smiles at the words but Prue heard, she felt mad but then she decided to leave to Phoebe, she wanted to know what her little sister had in the store for them all.
Finally Phoebe's name is called out. Proudly she walked down to the front of the class, smiling at everyone, then she looked at her teacher who told her to begun.
With hands behind her back, slowly she began to speak and out from the mouth of a child came words incredibly unique.
"My mummy couldn't be here." She began, "because she is too far away, but if she could, like my sister said, she would be here in a flash. And even though you don't meet her, I want you to know that I love my mummy and she love me too. She loved to tell me and my sisters stories, taught us to ride our bike, how to fly a kite. And at the end of the day we will be in front of the roaring fire, drinking hot chocolate. Even though you can't see her, she is right here, in my heart. Even through we are apart sometime, I feel if she is here with me. It's hard to explain. No words can explain that feeling." She paused and sigh, closing her eyes, she put her hands on her chest to feel her heartbeat. She can feel the wind in her face.
Prue is behind the door, crying at her little sister's words.
Phoebe took a big breath and starts softly again. "I love my mummy very much, she's my shining star and if she could she'd be here but heaven's just too far. Sometimes when I close my eyes, it's like if she never left." Then she closed her eyes and saw her mother. At that moment Prue peeked in and to her amazement, she witnessed with surprise a room full of mummies and children all starting to close their eyes.
Who knows what they saw before them, who knows what they felt inside. Maybe, just maybe they have just saw her by her younger daughter's side.
"I know you're with me mummy," to the silence she called out and what happened in the room, nobody know but there was gust of wind blowing and there was no possible way that so much wind could blow without any windows open.
Phoebe was blessed, if only a moment, by the love of her shining bright star has given the gift of believing that heaven is never too far.
Prue just smiles, she is proud of her little sister. Phoebe have teaches her a lesson, it's not her mum's fault, she never want to leave but she is there in their heart ¦ forever.
