Dragon’s Heat--missing scene

October 9, 2003

Phoebe sat at her window looking up at the stars in the blackened sky. She wasn’t even sure how long she had been sitting there. Her mind drifted back to the fight she had started at the Bay Mirror. She knew that her new power was the cause but she also knew she had to get some kind of control of it. Though she knew that was easier said then done.

She locked her eyes on one star. It was the same star she had seen for the last two years. It was her star, their star. She closed her eyes as her own memories tried to flood her mind. Memories she didn’t want to deal with that night.

She took in a deep breath and let it out slowly. As she opened her eyes taking in the cluster of stars again.

Piper looked down at her sleeping son. She thought of all the missed chances Leo was having with his son. But she also thought of another person that was missing out on Wyatt’s joy and smile, his happiness of life.

The rhythm of his chest moving in and out almost brought a tear to her eyes. She had come so close to losing him. But now he was where he belonged. Safe in his crib sleeping.

It was something she could sit ands watch forever. Her son sleeping. But something was nagging her. And she had feeling it wasn’t just her it was bothering.

Leaning down she placed a soft kiss on Wyatt’s forehead before she tucked his blankets around him. Tucking him in safe and warm for the night.

Moving through the Manor with ease she paused briefly at the door in front of her. She reached up to knock but then stopped herself. Her mind was trying to find the words but she couldn’t. Not this time.

Piper reached down and turned the knob of the door slowly at the same time taking in a deep breath.

“Phoebs.” She spoke softly not sure if her sister was sleeping.
“Hi Piper. Took you long enough standing out there.” Phoebe spoke but didn’t turn to see her sister start across her room after closing the door.
“I thought you were going to work on that control?”
“Sorry.” She replied but still made no move. “I wonder how Prue did it.” it was as much a statement as a question.

Piper sat next to Phoebe on the window seat and followed her gaze to the sky.

“I don’t know. But I know you’ll figure it out.”

The silence almost blanketed the both of them as they looked up at the stars. Each one was wanting to say something but they couldn’t find the right words.

“Piper. I don’t know the answer to the question any more then you do.”
“It doesn’t seem far though does it. I mean they were damn quick to come down here and take Wyatt. Why didn’t they do something when our magic was revealed that day?” Piper stood up and started to pace. She was angry and saddened all at once.
“Piper please.” Phoebe almost felt herself falling off the seat as her sisters’ sudden raw emotions slammed into her.

Piper moved quickly to her sister. The only time she had seen her react that bad to her power was once again her cause. When she felt all her anger at Leo.

“Phoebe. Oh god I’m sorry sweetie.”
“No you just have to let it out Piper. Then it isn’t so bad. Well for me anyway.” She smiled weakly at her big sister.
“I want to believe me. And you can not sit there and tell me you don’t feel the same pain that I do. Especially now.”
“I’m not. And I think that is why this hurts so much right now. I am feeling BOTH our emotions.” Phoebe felt the tear slide down her cheek. “I mean how fair is that? We were their precious Charmed Ones, Prue gave them everything. And this is what we get in return. I end up sacrificing everything to save you both only to lose her anyway.”

Piper didn’t stop her. She let Phoebe get everything off her chest. She didn’t have to say anything. For everything Phoebe was saying was what she had been thinking.

“I know it doesn’t make sense Phoebe. And ever since I heard about those damn ‘Cleaners’ I have been so angry. They gave us another chance with Wyatt. Why not with Prue? Why not her?” Piers own teas started down her face as well. She looked over at Phoebe who was now nearing hysterics. And she knew it was because of both the strong feelings. She wanted to reach over and pull her sister close to her but she wasn’t sure how she would react. That was until Phoebe moved to her.
“It hurts like hell Piper but I can't do this alone.” She cried on Pipers shoulder as she felt the warmth in the arms around her.
“Ok baby I got you.” Piper held Phoebe close as they both let their tears flow. “Maybe there was a reason that we just can't see right now.”
“Nothing would make it right Piper. They took her from us. They could have stopped it all.”

“What about Paige?” a new voice spoke from somewhere in the air. Causing them both to look up. “If Prue were here you would have never gotten to know Paige.”
“Well they messed that up to didn’t they Mum?” Phoebe shot back at her mother. She couldn’t stop the emotions that were running through her body and her mind.
“Phoebe I’m sorry about that you know that Sam and I would have done it differently if we could have.”
“But you didn’t.” Piper added her own words of anger.
“I know you are both upset right now. Especially you Phoebe. You are feeling everything. Your own feelings as well as Pipers. Prue understands. Everything was suppose to happen for a reason. Right now I know that is little comfort. You came close to losing Wyatt today. But got him back for the very reason Prue wasn’t saved. Paige was meant to be here. And I know this hurts more today, so close to the anniversary of her death. To you it is still raw in your hearts.” Patty explained as best she could. “The damage was to big last time. It spread to fast. But as Leo said they are neutral. This time they couldn’t not help you. As Piper said the power would shift drastically. Last time they couldn’t help. Or the power would have shifted as well. But this time in the favour of good. There was the risk of you finding Paige making the four of you VERY powerful.” She crouched down in front of her two older girls, placing her hands on their knees. “It hurts but what happened was destiny. Nothing else could have been done.” She stood back up.

Phoebe brushed back the tears from her face and stood to face her mother. Wanting so bad just to hug her. She felt Pipers arms wrapping around her from behind.

“Tell her we love her.” Piper said softly. Understanding now some of what their mother had told them.
“I will. I love you my darlings.” She blew a kiss out to them as the golden lights swirled around her

Piper stayed where she was as she felt Phoebe lean back against her. She just held on to her baby sister knowing the pain she was feeling. For it was also her own.

She looked down at the sleeping forms on the bed. It reminded her of when they were all younger. One of them would be upset about something and the other found their way into her bed. Giving the hurt one comfort. Though this time she knew they were both hurt because of her. She reached down and pulled the covers over them. Tucking them away from the autumn chill in the Manor.

Keeping her hand resting a moment on Pipers shoulder “I am sorry. But you both have to understand that what Mum said was true. If they had cleaned up our mess, the powers would have shifted. And they have to stay neutral.” She brushed a stray piece of hair from Phoebes face. “I love you both so much. But this was what was meant to be.” She leaned over and placed a gentle kiss on both her sisters before leaving.

“Prue?” Phoebe sat up looking around the room. At that split second before she woke up she felt so much love she knew it could only come from one person.
“Phoebs?” Piper looked up at her sister.
“She was here.” Phoebe answered softly as she snuggled back down to Piper

Piper wasn’t sure what to say so she pulled Phoebe closer as they both drifted back to sleep. She seemed to understand better why what had happened did. Some how it all made sense to her.

“I love you Prue.” She whispered softly as sleep consumed her.
