The night sky acted like a blanket to the earth. The only thing that seemed to be moving where the lights that streaked by the window. The only sound that was heard was the tires on the pavement and the droning of the engine.
The shadows past by with each light. Almost like the memories that past through her mind. Some good some bad. But she seemed to remember the bad with more detail then the good. Maybe it was her minds way of preparing her for what was to come.
The streaking lights eventually acted like sheep counting and she found herself drifting off to sleep and once again into another memory.
“What the hell! Piper!” the scream echoed through out the Manor. That was soon followed by the mad footsteps.
Phoebe sat on her bed almost waiting for her sister to come storming in. And as usual the eldest Halliwell did not disappoint her sister.
“Where’s Piper?” she asked in anger.
“Don’t know.” Phoebe said with out even looking up at her sister. Afraid if she did it would give a hidden secret away.
“Damn it.” Prue stormed out of the room to continue the search for the other sister. The middle one. The quiet one. The buffer between oldest and youngest.
Phoebe got off her bed and left her room to stand at the top of the stairs. She didn’t know why. To make it easier for Prue to kill me’ she thought. But as she stood there she was shocked at what she heard. Piper was taking the blame for something she had done.
“His CAT! Piper this is my favorite jacket not to mention it cost me $200.00. How the hell could his cat pee on it?”
“Prue I’m sorry. His got a new little kitten. Look I’ll pay for it.”
“You’re damn right you’ll pay for it! God Piper this is something that I expect from Phoebe not you.” Prue yelled at her sister before she threw the jacket at her and stormed up the stairs.
Half way up she met Phoebes gaze. She knew that her sister had heard the last remark. But before she could say anything Phoebe turned and ran into her room. But she ran not for the reason that Prue thought as she sighed and went after her.
Opening the door quietly Prue took in a deep breath as she looked over at her baby sister on her bed laying down looking out the window.
“Phoebe I’m sorry.”
“It’s ok Prue.”
“No it’s not. I was mad and I said things that I shouldn’t have.”
“But it’s true. It is something that I would have done. Tried to hid it from you that is.” She said. Inside her mind was screaming at her ‘Tell her the truth don’t let Piper take the heat for something you did.’ But the baby sister inside was telling to let it go. Enjoy the reach that Prue is making.
Prue sat down beside her on the bed and placed a hand on her side. “Maybe. But I shouldn’t have lashed out at you like that. I’m sorry.”
Phoebe looked up and saw into Prues eyes, into her soul.
“It’s ok. Really it is.”
Prue too saw into Phoebes eyes. There was always something there with her littlest sister that she could never truly understand.
“Ok.” Was all she said as she stood up to leave the room. “I’m going over to Rogers. I’ll see you tomorrow.”
She watched her leave and the words she had said. ‘Roger. I wish you could truly see him Prue. He’s a creep.’ She thought as rolled over on to her back.
Dinner was quiet with just Grams, Piper and Phoebe. The absents of Prue was noticeable as they was no arguing with Phoebe as there usually was during the dinner hour and Piper was quieter then ever after he own fight with Prue.
After all the dishes were done and put away. “I’m going home. I’ll see you tomorrow Grams. G’night Phoebs.” Piper said quietly as she gave them each a hug and a kiss she turned and left the kitchen
Phoebe looked over at her and was about to follow but Grams placed a hand on her arm yet said nothing. She didn’t need to; Phoebe knew what Grams meant. Give her some time. She felt bad and she wanted to tell Piper that she was sorry that she never said anything to Prue. Sorry that she let her take the blame.
The phone rang breaking the silence of the Manor. As it continued to ring the lone occupant of the house wearily answered. After all it was Saturday. Her one of two days she got to sleep in.
“Hello?”
“Hey Phoebe I need a huge favour.”
“Roger?”
“Yeah. Look Phoebe I don’t have a lot of time. Can you stop by and pick up Prues black dress from the cleaners. She wants it for a party tonight.”
“Cant you just get it for her?” she didn’t want to go to Rogers. He creeped her out. Every time he looked at her it sent shivers through her body.
“No I have a meeting at 2 that I cant get out of I wont be able to get there before it closes.”
She was trying to get along with Roger for her sisters’ sac but she just couldn’t shake the feeling she had about him.
“Fine I’ll go.” Phoebe said before she hung up the phone.
She walked down the hall with Prues dress in her hand. Taking in a dep breath she knocked on the door.
“Its open Phoebe.” He called out
Reaching down she slowly opened the door and stepped in.
“I’ll just hang it on the back of the door Roger. I gotta jet.” She called out to the apartment. She didn’t know where he was and that was what bothered her more then anything.
But as she turned she felt his hand on her shoulder pulling her back towards the apartment.
“Let me go.” She spun around to face him but he quickly pulled her towards him and kissed her passionately. Only it was not returned with the same passion.
She opened the door and the sight before her screamed at her very being.
“WHAT THE HELL!”
Pushing Phoebe away Roger looked into the eyes of his fiancée. And seeing the betrayal there he quickly covered his own tracks.
Phoebe stepped back from him to shocked at what he had just done. He kissed her. He was set to marry her sister in a matter of weeks and he stood there and kissed her like that. She also had no doubt in her mind that if Prue had not walked in at that moment that he would have tried more then just a kiss
“Prue I can explain.” He quickly said before Phoebe could say anything. “She came on to me I swear.”
“WHAT! You bastard. I was leaving and you came out of nowhere and pulled me back in.”
Prue stood there still stunned at what she saw. But her first reaction was the one she knew. One she was used to.
“Don’t even try it Phoebe. Get out of here. Get out of my site.” She snapped at her her anger flaring more then Phoebe had ever seen it.
“Prue I nev..”
“I don’t want to hear it Phoebe. Just GET OUT!”
Phoebe looked at Prue hurt and to Roger with daggers. “Fine.” She said as she made for the door. “And they say blood is thicker.” She said under her breath as she exited the room and slammed the door.
Prue made her choice. But would it be a choice that would come back at her sooner then she would ever imagine.
“Prue how could you just stand there and not hear her side of what happened?”
“Because I know her Piper.”
“Do you? She would never do that.”
“Piper you didn’t see them.”
“Was he trying to get away from her. Maybe she was telling the truth.”
“She has never liked him Piper. It was her way to get me to get away from him. Well in that at least her idea worked.”
“That’s right Prue she never liked him all the more reason I cant see her kissing him like that.” Piper tried to get Prue to see Phoebes side of the story. She remembered to well when her baby sister came bursting into the apartment that she shared with Prue. Tears streaming down her face and crying so much she couldn’t even make a complete sentence.
“Piper it’s done and over. She’s gone now anyway. What do you want me to do? Go get her and drag her back?” Prue said. Though deep down she wanted Piper to tell her yes. Go get our. That is our baby sister about to head off to NYC.
Piper turned and just walked away. The week had been draining on all of them. Grams died and had left them al the Manor. Prue and Piper were packing their stuff to move back in. Prue and roger broke off the engagement and they had to cancel all the arrangements. And then Phoebe had said she was leaving. She had dropped her classes at College and was going to NYC. It was about as far from Prue as she could get Piper gathered.
Prue watched as Piper walked away from her. Taking in a deep breath she took her keys and left the apartment. She didn’t know where she was going she just needed some peace to herself. But the next thing she knew she had parked her car and she was walking towards the terminal. She quickly scanned over the crowd looking for the one person she didn’t want out of her life. What had it taken for her to realize that? But when she saw her she froze. What would I say? What would she do?
She watched as her baby sister walked through the security gate to board her plane. She took another step forward but couldn’t make herself go any further. She watched as the plane pulled away from the terminal and taxied to the runway. She watched as it stood on the tarmac and then suddenly it was gone. Gone from her sites carrying with it her baby sister
Phoebe had sat in the airport terminal waiting for her flight to be called. She had left the Manor early in hopes one of sisters would come and talk her out of this crazy idea. She looked up as her flight was called; though not getting up right away to board. How long should I wait? Should I just go back?
She waited till final call. Standing up she walked to her gate. Looking around one last time before going through. As she stepped through the doorframe to the ramp she thought she saw Prue. But realized that it was silly. If anything it would be Piper that came for her. But she couldn’t help but look again through the window on the ramp. Looking back to the building. She saw her there. Almost watching her yet she seemed as if she frozen or she was just making sure I actually left.
Days turned to weeks. Weeks turned to Months. They never spoke. Whenever Phoebe called and Prue got the phone she would immediately pass it to Piper. Deep inside she was mad at herself for not stopping her sister from getting on that plane. How could I let her just get on a plane for NYC? She is my baby sister and that is the biggest city in this country. And if the size alone isn’t bad the people. What if something happened to her? How can I protect her when she is about as far away as she can get when still in the same country? Thank god she didn’t decide to go to Europe.
The days were long. The weeks were longer. But the months seemed like years. Now she was heading back. All she ever thought about was seen her at the airport. Why didn’t you stop me Prue?
The taxi pulled up in front of her family home. The only home she ever knew. The bus ride was long and tiring. Two days on a bus full of some of the strangest people she would ever meet.
Taking in a deep breath she burst open the door. “I found the hide a key.” She sated as she saw both her sisters standing in the foyer. Prue turned and looked at her as Piper greeted her with open arms.
Prue was furious at Piper for not telling her that Phoebe was on her way home. But deep inside she felt that same feeling that she had at the airport that day. And as she watched her two sisters’ hug and then Piper leave the Manor she was left there to face her feelings. She looks great.
The reunion was cold but the night was more interesting then they would have ever thought.
She was back. Back where she belonged. Witches? Piper lay in her bed thinking of the arrival of Phoebe and the tension that had already been felt in the Manor that night. “And its only her first day back.” She said to no one
Witches? This could be very cool. Phoebe said as she tried to fight off the sleep that was threatening to overcome her. The traveling and the time change was more then her system could take. Prue had that same look in eyes as her body and face had that day at the airport. But as Phoebe slowly lost the battle with sleep she too realized what it was. “I love you too Prue.” She said as she drifted off.
Witches? Prue thought to herself as she lay on her bed. Her family was whole again. ‘I can’t believe I let her go.’ She thought to herself. Pulling the covers around her she closed her eyes finally realizing what the feeling inside of her was all those months ago. Love. As simple as that. “I love you Phoebs.” She said to the darkness of her room.
All three ready to start a fresh in their own way. But they were together and to all of them it was all that mattered.
