He came here every day and every day it was the same.

He stared at the children on the playground.

So many!

Who would he choose?

“NO!! I CAN’T!!! I WON’T!!!!”

“YOU CAN’T MAKE ME!!!!!”

He painfully shouted before attempting to reason with his inward adversary.

“Please don’t make me do this! I don’t want to hurt them!!”

He grabbed his head as if to make the voices stop.

“You must not fail me again. You must use powers against them.”

“You are not strong enough to fight me. It is almost time. Use your powers!”
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Then he spotted her. The one that could make it all ok.
So without hesitation he ran.
Ran as fast as his six-year-old legs could take him.
“MOOOMMMMY!!!”
Yes, he ran and ran until he crossed the park straight into her arms, nearly knocking her over.
“WHAT!?!”
“WHAT IS IT BEN!?!”
Ready to take out any would be predator.
“MAKE IT STOP!!”
“MAKE THE VOICES GO AWAY!!!”
Gently she cradled her son.
“Not again?” She whispered.
To which he only nodded.
“Honey? Look at Mommy.”
Slowly he lifted his head so that his dark brown eyes met hers.
“You can suppress it!”
“You have to choose... Choose the good!”
“It’s never easy to be brave, but I know you can do it!!”
“Your Daddy did!”
“He did?” Ben said as Phoebe wiped away the dampness on his dirt-streaked face.
“Yes!! And so can you!! You are just like him you know!”
“I AM!?!” Ben asked standing a little taller as his chest puffed out in obvious pride.
“Yes you are!” Phoebe said as she tapped her index finger on the tip of his nose.
“Now what’s it going to be?”
“A playground fight or some of your Aunt Piper’s chocolate cake?”
Looking back into the sea of playing faces and then back at his mother he said.
“Cake.”
“Good boy! I am very proud of you!!”
Placing his small hand into hers they walked back to the Manor.
“Mommy?”
“Yes, Son?”
“I love you!”
“I Love you too Baby, I love you too!!”
