Wyatt’s Song
~ Complete ~
The Pacific wind gently blew through the open window. The day had been long and hard, filled with many emotions. The fact the Cleaners tried to take her son was the ache closest to the surface at present. She gently ran her fingers through his sandy hair, the action more soothing to her then the sleeping child in her arms. The rocking chair, that held countless Halliwell mothers over the years, swayed evenly, the curved rungs hitting the part of the hardwood that let out a groan from its loving pressure.

As I look into your eyes
I see all the reasons why
My life's worth a thousand skies

Piper had felt relatively certain she understood the meaning of the word love. The scent of sandalwood never failed to bring her mother’s face into view. The sparkle in her eyes when she would be invited to one of Piper’s tea parties. The brilliant smile that would draw her daughter into her arms, when the life of a toddler was just too much. The games of hide and seek and stories read a hundred times. A love that was so unconditional and safe. Yes Piper Halliwell knew the meaning of love.
Piper’s understanding was validated when Phoebe was born. Even at three she recognized the bond that she, up until know, had only shared with Prue. Her mother and grandmother were on high alert expecting the natural jealousy that occurs when a new child enters the family. Little did they know that they had nothing to worry about, Piper adored her baby sister and felt nothing but joy when they locked eyes and hearts. To this day the smell of baby powder and the pure innocence of life never fails to bring this moment in time into view.
Piper only questioned the value of love once. The day she had to say good bye forever to her hero. The one who gave her strength was now still, the sister who she worshipped was now dead. What was the use of love when all it did was hurt those who chose to accept it? What worth did the intense emotions contain if in the end it was callously replaced with anguish? What did it mean when a part of your heart was ripped out and substituted with constant pain? The sweet smell of wild orchids and melting candles never neglects to remind her that without the contrary the pleasure of love would be like catching air with a butterfly net, all efforts lost at the end of the day.
Piper fought for love once. She held onto the belief that love could conquer all. A love that saved her from certain death. A love that went beyond the realm of language or past the comprehension of the saged. The feeling that against all odds this union would outlast eternity. But the greater good was too powerful a contender and the pain of a dream half lived was the hammer that knocked the cornerstone out of a foundation rocked by unfairness.
But it was with in the walls of that ivory tower that Piper’s true understanding was conceived. The unrefined love of a child, your child, is one that can cause men to kill and women to die for. Since as far back as Plato, writers have attempted to portray their concept of utopia when all they really had to do was look into the eyes of their own children. The Eden of ancient times is resurrected when you hold the Genesis of life in your arms. Simple... pure... yours.

You're the simplest love I've known
And the purest one I'll own
No, you'll never be alone

Piper looked down on the son who now stirred under her watchful gaze. The child that was more fascinated with the turning carousel and the music box song that the horses seemed to be chasing. Yes this is love. This moment, this bond, this charge that made the pain disappear and lifted her broken wings to heights she had never imagined possible. Wyatt cooed and turned his droopy eyes to his mother. Instinctively wrapping his fingers around hers. The smile of joy in finding her attention only on him. That flash of time forever changed Piper’s view on love and that for the first time in her life she felt alive.

My baby you are the reasons I could fly
And cuz of you I don't have to wonder why
Baby you - there's no more just getting by
You're the reason I feel so alive

How do you explain the feeling? How do you compose a verse adequate enough to convey your heart? How do you enlighten the world on the peace that can be obtained in the fraction of yourself? No words can express what lies within the soul of a parent and their child. Pen cannot raise voice loud enough to drowned the swell that claims the heart of mother and her boy. It must be communicated with the heart for anything less would be but a mere copy.

Though these words I sing are true
They still fail to capture you
As mere words can only do

Wyatt, now fully awake, found the look on Mommy’s face extremely funny and broke out in a two-toothed smile. The chorus of pride heralding the beauty of motherhood. The sensation of flight once again tempted Piper to scale the impossible and mount the unattainable. The phenomenon of being able to free fall into any situation so long as at the end of the journey that smile would still be for her.

How will I explain that smile
And how it turns my world around
Keeping my feet on the ground

Wyatt was torn between playing with the silky hair that tickled his fingers or the heavy lids that would keep him from his fun. The dilemma was too much for such a little man and the tears began to brim the eyes that earlier had conquered a dragon. Piper shifted her son to a sitting position and pulled him close. The sound of her voice echoed by the steadiness of her heart made Wyatt’s decision easier. The damp lashed bobbed along with his head as Piper spoke him into sleep.
Taking her thumb and tracing the salty line that glistened in the room lit by only the moon, she said. “My sweet boy, never worry that Mommy won’t be there to wipe away those tears. That I won’t move heaven and earth to keep you safe. I may fail sometimes but it won’t be for lack of effort. I can‘t promise you forever, but I can ensure today. For even if I should go away, the fingers of my heart are never more then a beat away. You have a future filled with much responsibility, the weight will be much, but the duty predestined. Rest now while you can, in the arms that will bear that weight until you can do so on your on. Always now that you are my greatest love of all. ”

Ohh - I will sooth you if you fall
I'll be right there if you call
You're my greatest love of all
