“Happily Ever After: Missing Scene”
Paige sat in her room, looking through a photo album. She couldn’t believe that just a few short hours ago, she had met her Grams. The woman she had heard so much about. The grandmother who had shaped who Paige was, albeit indirectly, but still. If it hadn’t been for Grams, Paige wouldn’t be who she was today. How could she be afraid of meeting her Grams. Grams was so sweet and all she wanted to do was love Paige. Paige could give her that. She had let her mother and older sisters in after all, what was one more person? But as Paige sat there and looked at pictures of her adopted family, she knew the answer as to why she couldn’t let Grams in at first. She had had a grandmother. A very sweet, loving and caring one. Her Nana had been there for her through some of the hardest times of her life and when Paige had lost her at the tender age of ten, Paige was devestated. She had loved her Nana very much and she had cried for days after her Nana had gone to heaven. As Paige sat there, staring at the pictures of her and her Nana, a single tear rolled down her cheek. She really missed her and meeting her Grams, had just made her want her Nana more.
“Mind if I join you?” A familiar voice said from out of nowhere.
Paige glanced up, expecting to see Piper or Phoebe, but was met by the ice, kind blue eyes of her eldest sister, Prue. Paige nearly jumped a foot in the air. Her sadness and loneliness turned to fear.
“It’s okay,” Prue assured her. “I won’t hurt you, sweetie. The Elders sent me down. They said you could use my help about something.”
Paige shook her head. Prue was the last person she wanted to see.
“I don’t want to talk to you,” Paige said, feeling irritated. She closed the photo album and put it away. As she went to leave the room, Prue stood in front of her.
“I know you’re upset,” Prue said, “and that’s why I’m here. I want to make you feel better. But I can’t do that unless you talk to me. What’s on your mind, Missy Paige.”
“Don’t call me that!” Paige said, her composure starting to eb away. “Piper is the only one who calls me that.”
Prue smiled at this. Paige definitely had the Halliwell look and the stubbornness.
“Sorry,” Prue apologized. “Well, Miss Paige, let’s sit down here and talk.”
“I DON’T WANT TO TALK!!!” Paige shouted as she orbed out of the room and downstairs, hoping that Piper was there. She found her sister in the kitchen, making dinner. She ran over and threw her arms around Piper’s waist.
Piper was taken aback and looked down to see Paige crying into her stomach. SHE put the spatchula down and picked Paige up. Paige was light so it was easy. She carried her into the living room and sat down on the couch with Paige in her lap. She started stroking Paige’s hair and tried to calm her down.
“What’s gotten my Missy Paige upset?” Piper asked gently. “What are all the raindrops for?”
Paige let out a sob as she buried her face in Piper’s shoulder, clinging on for all it was worth. She needed Piper’s comfort right now, not Prue’s. She barely knew Prue. She wanted to know her, just not right now.
Just then, Prue came downstairs. She rounded the corner and stopped when she saw Paige in Piper’s arms.
“What happened?” Piper asked, looking up to see Prue standing there.
Prue sighed.
“The Elders sent me down to talk to Paige, but she didn’t want to talk. She was rather rude about it too, I might add.”
“Missy Paige….” Piper said warningly, but there was a gentle tone to her voice, “Paige, honey, is that true?”
Paige nodded and let out a sob.
“Why would you do that, sweetie? Prue was just trying to help.”
“I don’t’ want her help!” Paige cried as she buried her face in Piper’s shoulder again. ‘I want you! I want my big sister! I want you! Prue isn’t my big sister! You are! Not her! I just want you!!”
“Okay,” Piper said, sensing a tantrum coming on from Paige being upset, “okay, it’s okay, sweetie. You have me, you’re all right. But I think you should apologize to Prue. She didn’t do anything.”
Paige shook her head.
“Paige Lindsay Halliwell…..” Piper said warningly. “Either apologize to Prue right now, or I’m going to ground you.”
Paige looked at Piper in disbelief, but she recognized the tone in her voice and did as she was told. She wiped away a few tears and then turned her attention to her eldest sister.
“I’m sorry,” she muttered.
“For what?” Piper prompted her.
“For being rude to you. You were only trying to help,” Paige gave Prue a glare before burying her face in Piper’s shoulder again.
Piper sighed and rubbed Paige’s back. Her baby sister was really going through a hard time. Something must really be wrong.
Prue rubbed Paige’s shoulder gently as she said, “I accept your apology. Now, do you mind telling me what’s wrong?”
“Yes,” Paige said.
“Paige….” Piper warned.
Paige sighed.
“I do mind telling her my business,” Paige said to Piper. “I need your help, not hers!”
“Paige!” Piper scolded. “Tell Prue you’re sorry right now.”
Paige shook her head and buried her face in Piper’s shoulder again.
Piper gave Prue an apologetic look and then turned her attention back to Paige.
“Okay, if you don’t want to tell Prue what’s wrong, then tell me. What’s gotten my Missy Paige so upset?”
“Okay, you really want to know what’s wrong? I miss my Nana, okay? That’s what’s wrong. I miss my Nana! Are you happy now?” She continued to cry as Piper stroked her hair and rubbed her back, trying to calm her down again.
Once Paige had calmed down, she continued.
“I mean, I know Grams loves me and I love her too, I mean, I want to love her, but I just….” Her voice trailed off as more tears came.
“Shh,” Piper soothed as she stroked Paige’s hair gently. “It’s okay, Missy Paige. It’s all right. We’re here. I have you. It’s al right. You’re okay. You’re all right.” She kissed Paige’s temples gently while Prue started rubbing her shoulder.
“It’s okay to miss your Nana,” Prue said. “When Grams died, I missed her terribly.”
“Me too,” Piper said, giving Paige’s temples another kiss. “But that doesn’t mean you shut out everyone else, especially if they are trying to help you.”
Paige sighed and nodded. She knew her sisters spoke the truth, especially Piper, but she didn’t know how to feel better about it, at least not right now.
“Can I stay where I belong for a little while longer?” Paige asked Piper hopefully.
“And where is that?” Piper asked, hugging Paige’ close to her.
“Here, in your arms, safe and sound.”
“Sure you can. You can always come back to where you belong too, don’t ever forget that. I love you, Missy Paige. Very much. And you can always come to me for anything. I’ll always be here for you.” She gave Paige a kiss and hug as Prue kissed Paige’s cheek.
“That goes for me too, you silly goober. I will always be around. I’m always watching over all of my girls. I will NEVER stop loving you, no matter how much you push me away, so you are not going to get rid of me that easily.” Prue smiled and then winked at Piper.
Piper caught her sister’s look and then said, “Uh, Paige, do you mind coming to the kitchen with me?”
Paige shook her head and wrapped her arms around Piper’s neck, giving her the impression that she wanted to be carried. Piper then, bent down and tickled Paige’s ribs, making her burst out giggling. Prue joined in the tickling fest and soon all three sisters were giggling and trying to breathe normally again. by the time the tickle war had ended, the three sisters were sprawled on the floor, each resting their head on the eldest’s shoulder.
Prue had dinner with them and got a chance to spend some time with Phoebe. As she tucked Paige into bed that night, she promised her she would be back and gave her a kiss before orbing back up to heaven. She knew it was going to take Paige a little while before Paige trusted her like she trusted Piper and Phoebe, but Prue was happy that she had made an effort to let her in. All Prue wanted to do was love her and she was glad that Paige was giving her a chance to do just that.
