Phoebe 14
Phoebe walked through the door after a bad day at school. She had failed a French test and she had lost the hockey game. All she had to do was put the ball in the net and she had messed it up. She couldnt believe how stupid she was to miss a sitter. She always got them in, always, that was why she had been chosen to represent her state at the sport. She was fast, she could find people in spaces and her hits and pushes were mostly always accurate. But lately nothing had been going right. Nothing. Her grades were slipping, she kept being late and missing classes. And her sporting performance was poor also, she just didnt put any effort into anything anymore.
Phoebe walked into the kitchen and saw bottles lying on the kitchen counter. She just shook her head and walked to the fridge to get herself a drink, she knew there would be more bottles in there also. As she approached the fridge she saw a note with her name on it. She opened it and read it. She couldnt believe her sisters had gone out and left her there, in the house, by herself with him. She knew they were just trying to escape, but to leave her with him yet again was not nice. She didnt know why she had to look after him, why she had to make sure he didnt keel over and die, though sometimes she just wished that he would. At least then she would be free. Free of the pain and free of the heartache and free of the humiliation.
Phoebe forgot about her drink and walked into the lounge. As she approached the lounge she didnt need to see him to know that he was there. She could hear and smell him. Though the house smelt like him now. Nothing could get rid of that nasty smell nothing. But Phoebe continued into the lounge, she didnt know why but she knew she had to make sure he was in a good position and wouldnt choke or stop breathing. She had learnt how to do it one day at the age of 9, when herself and Piper had been home alone when he had come home and just collapsed on the floor. He was having trouble breathing and neither of them knew what to do. In panic they had run across the road, asking their friends dad to help them as they didnt know what to do. The man came over, a headmaster at a local school he knew what to do. Not because he had been in these situations before but because it was essential to his training and his job as a teacher. He had shown them the recovery position, just in case he vomited and choked. He told them not to let him sleep on his back. Phoebe had taken note of this. At the age of 9 she already knew what to do. But it wasnt an easy task. Moving a 15stone man onto his side was a hard job. But she had done it. And here she was checking to make sure he was okay. She didnt know why she bothered, it felt like a chore and she hated it. She hated the fact that she had to stay with him while her sisters went out.
Once she had made sure he was okay, she went upstairs to try and do some homework. She knew that he would be out for the night. So she knew at least tonight she would have some peace.
She was just finishing her homework when she heard a bang downstairs. She couldnt believe it. She stopped what she was doing and walked down the stairs quietly as so not to disturb him, but nothing really could do that. But she liked the fact that he never heard her, she liked the fact that she could watch for ages of what he was doing. She found it funny but then her humour would turn to sorrow. As she neared the bottom of that stairs she looked round the corner quietly. He wasnt there. So she continued on her path to the kitchen going as quietly as she could go. She had done this hundreds of times so she knew where not to stand. She peered around the wall to the kitchen and saw him slamming the cupboards. She knew what he was looking for but she knew he wouldnt find it. He never did. How would he find it if it was down the sink. He never knew.
Phoebe had learnt the best way to get the bad stuff out if the house and away from the man was to wash it down the sink. Seeing that her little plan had worked yet again she turned around and headed back upstairs this time to go to bed.
She was just about to get into bed when she heard a knock at the door. She opened the door to see him, staring at her, his eyes red and going yellow.
Im just going to bed dad
Did you win your hockey game? he slurred. At least he remembered, that was one reason Phoebe loved her dad, the fact though as many times as he was drunk he would never forget the games she was to play and had played. It was just his nature. He loved the fact that his daughter played sport and was good at it.
Phoebe smiled but then sighed. No dad. We lost. I messed up an easy shot. And because of that we lost.
Dont worry duck he was using his pet name for her now. She didnt really like it, it irritated her, she didnt mind it when she was 4 but she was nearly 15. Youll win this weekend.
I dont know if Im playing. It amazed Phoebe how he could hold a conversation in the state he was in. But she knew that he wouldnt remember anything by morning.
Her dad looked shocked. Why?
Phoebe shrugged, she hated telling him that there was no point in playing as all she did was sit on the subs bench when she played for her city. When Playing for school she was the star of the team but when playing for her local team she wasnt. she was a pauper compared to the rest of the Grammer School snobs. And she couldnt hack it, she was going to quit soon. She was good she knew it, but she didnt want to warm the bench for the rest of her life. I hurt my shoulder when hitting the ball. I guess I didnt warm up properly. She lied.
You had a bath, and soaked it?
Yeah I have already. Im just going to go to bed.
Okay. Well goodnight. Her dad continued his way down the hall to his room, when he stopped. Phoebe, where are your sisters?
I dont know dad. I havent seen them all day. She lied again. She knew where they were and knew the reason that they never came home until late, until he had gone to bed, when they knew they wouldnt have to deal with him.
Oh okay. Well good night. And with that he closed the door and went to bed.
Phoebe sighed, she hated lying to him but in his state he would never know. But she could tell that he knew, even in the state that he was in, that his daughters were keeping their distance from him. She could see it in his eyes.
Phoebe closed the door to her room that she shared with her sister Piper. And went to bed. She knew she would be woken up in a little while by her sisters coming home. She hated the fact that she had to do everything. She went to school, she played hockey and all the other sports the school did, and she came home to do more work that school had set but she couldnt do it because she had to look after her father. She hated the fact that her grades were slipping while her sisters were out there having fun. She hated the fact that her friends, her so called friends didnt ring her as they knew that she would never come out. She wanted to go out, she wanted to socialise but she couldnt. she had no choice but to stay in and make sure everything was okay. She also hated the fact that she never drank, she never drank because she didnt want to become her dad.
Phoebe was just drifting off to sleep when she heard her sisters talking downstairs. Finally home she thought bitterly. She hated that they went out, she hated the fact that they never came home until late and she hated the fact that she worried about them. She climbed out of bed and turned off the light in the hall that was shinning into her room. She knew it would be turned on in a little while but she just wanted it off now. So she could sleep. But as Phoebe was about to turn it off she heard her sisters coming up the stairs. She paused them ran quietly in her room and into her bed. Turning her head away from the door. She did this on many occasions. She didnt want them to know that she had stayed up half the night worrying about them and she didnt want them to know that she had been woken by them. Phoebe heard her sisters say there goodnights and she heard Piper walk into the room. Phoebes bed was furthest away from the door, and she was facing the wall. So she didnt see Piper stop and just stare at her. Phoebe knew something was going on as Piper had stopped moving and she hadnt heard the bed move. Phoebe turned around slowly, yawning as she did, to make it look like she was waking up. She opened her eyes a little and squinted at the light that was still shining in from the hall. Piper never turned the light on when she came in.
Turn the light off Piper. Phoebe spoke softly about to pull the covers over her head, but was stopped by Pipers hand. What Piper? Phoebe asked annoyed.
Hows school going?
fine. Phoebe replied harshly. She hated the fact that piper always tried to start conversations when she came in.
Did you win your game today?
Phoebe sighed. No we didnt. its late I need to sleep. Good night. Phoebe tugged her arm free and pulled the covers over her head.
Piper just stood there. Phoebe had been off lately with both her and Prue. And she didnt know why. She had asked Phoebe once and Phoebe just blanked her. Piper didnt know what to do anymore. They hardly spent anytime together or talk and she didnt know why. Piper walked over to the hall and turned off the light walking slowly back to bed she got in and fell asleep. Not before whispering. I love you phoebe. Good night
Morning came and Phoebe groaned as the sun hit her face. She looked at the clock and saw that it was 7:30. Great she thought. She didnt need to be up until 8 most mornings as the bus didnt pick her up until 8:35 at the top of the hill. She got up most mornings at 8, got dressed packed her bag, did her hair and teeth and was out the door by 8:20 to walk to the bus stop which was 10minutes away if she walked fast. She never saw her sisters in the mornings as Piper was either in bed sleeping as she had a free or had already left as Piper needed to be out of the house by 7am to get to college by 9. But Prue, Phoebe hardly saw her eldest sister. Prue didnt have to be at work until 10 most mornings. So most days she slept in but when she didnt she would be in the kitchen reading the morning paper. But Phoebe never went into the kitchen in the mornings. She had no need to.
Phoebe slowly got up, she hated waking up at this time, but at least she would be able to watch a few minutes of morning television. Phoebe got up and quietly grabbed the clothes she was going to wear for the day and walked to the bathroom. She got changed in the bathroom when Piper slept in as she didnt want to wake her.
As Phoebe was done getting ready. She came out of the bathroom brushing her hair. She didnt see where she was going until she bumped into her father.
Oh sorry dad. I didnt see you there.
Morning. Her dad replied not really bothering that she had bumped into him. Phoebe smiled. What you doing up so early?
Sun woke me up. Her dad laughed. So you going to work today?
Yep, Im heading off soon. Want a lift to school? he asked as they both continued walking down the stairs.
Nah, its okay dad. Ill just get the bus. She didnt like the fact that her dad drove so soon as drinking, she knew alcohol took 8 hours to get fully out of the system. But her dad was an experienced driver. Having driven all around America, trading carpets. Their family business was as success, everyone got their carpets from them, Phoebe just loved it. She loved the smell of new carpets. If any smell was to remind her of home, it was the smell of carpets. She couldnt help it. She had been brought up with it. Having her father come home smelling of carpets if he wasnt smelling of alcohol and having her house smell of carpets as they had new carpets every 6months. It was her homely smell. Every shop they went into that sold carpets she would automatically go over to the carpet section. Her sisters would laugh at her, calling her weird, but she knew like her they too liked the smell. But would never show it. She didnt care. She was proud of the business her dad ran.
Okay if thats what you want?
Yeah. Plus your going soon arent you? I dont need to be at school until 9.
I know. I just thought I would. Her dad replied sadly.
Phoebe felt horrible she hated disappointing her dad. Hey dad, we have a football game today after school. Why dont you come?
Her dad smiled. What time?
About 4ish. We have to wait until the other school arrives.
Thats fine. Ill be there. Her dad hugged her and walked into the kitchen to get him self a cup of coffee while Phoebe walked into the morning room to watch television.
Phoebe sat watching television her dad had been in to say goodbye and to tell her that he would be there, now she was alone watching some idiot prance about trying to win $100. she looked at the clock at the bottom left hand corner of the tv.
Shit! Phoebe couldnt believe it. It was nearly twenty past 8. Great Im going to be late yet again. She spoke to her self. Mentally scolding herself.
She ran up the stairs not caring if she woke her sisters in the process, and ran to get her school bag and her sports bag that she had packed when she had awoken. Once she had them she ran into the bathroom and washed her teeth. She then flew down the stairs and out the door, grabbing her keys, purse and bus pass as she went past.
Phoebe made it up to the bus stop for 8:35 having sprinted all the way up. She couldnt be late again this week or else she would get an after school detention. But she knew she was going to be late as the seconds on the clock ticked by and no bus came. She stood with her friends all talking, about how great it is that their bus was always late. Phoebe just nodded her head. 15 minutes later her bus came and they all piled on. It took 10 minutes to get to school, the bus driver speeding it all the way. Phoebe and her friends arrived at school to see children walking to assembly. She hated Thursday mornings as it was assembly for her yr, the yr above and below. She didnt see the point in it, no one paid any attention anyways. Phoebe climbed off the bus and walked into the hall, having taken off her coat as she went in. she saw her tutor sitting down and tried to make eye contact with her. She saw her and gave her a scowl, that told her she was in trouble. Phoebe sat down and tried to ignore the trouble she would be in at the end of assembly.
The assembly ended and the head of years came to talk to the students that were in each of their years. Phoebes year head spoke first.
School is closed on may 7th for a teacher training day, school reopens the next day though. As for messages concerning this week, I would like to see the girls football team after and also I would like to see Byron Smith.
Each line was filed out, and pupils went on their way to their first lessons of the day.
Phoebe stayed behind as requested and so did the other members of the team. Mostly the same people that played on the hockey team last night. Phoebe had stood and was about to move over to the other girls on the team when a voice stopped her.
Phoebe Halliwell. Late again I see. Phoebe knew that voice it belonged to that of her form tutor. She turned around to come face to face with Mrs Webster.
Yeah, Im sorry. But it wasnt my fault.
It never is Phoebe. She cut her off. your on detention all next week.
Phoebe stood there in shock. What for just being late 3 times and it wasnt my fault twice?
Dont take that tone of voice with me! Mrs Webster shouted.
But your not being fair! Ive apologised numerous times for being late. And Ive told you the reasons. I cannot help it if my bus doesnt turn up on time. A school bus by that matter.
That is just an excuse.
It isnt I get on a school bus. That is meant to pick me up at 8:35 but this morning didnt come until 8:50. Its a school bus. Ask Sarah she knows because she gets on it with me, and she was late also.
Phoebe Halliwell I will not take that tone of voice from you. You are on detention all next week and I dont want to hear another word of it. With that Mrs Webster turned on her heels and strode away.
Phoebe turned around and saw her friends looking at her. Phoebe sighed and walked over to them.
Geez Phoebe. She hates you so much. Sarah laughed.
Dont remind me. I have no idea why she does.
Come off it, she hates you because you play sports and take them more seriously then you do her subject.
Yeah but how can you enjoy food more than sports? Yeah I know its nice to make stuff but sport is much more interesting.
We all know that Phoebe. But can you really see her playing any sport? Sarah laughed. Phoebe laughed in agreement. It was true. Her form tutor was a large lady and the only sport she did play was badminton. Phoebe knew the real reason why she resented her. Yeah sport was the main reason but also because she had beaten her when they had had a game of badminton after school once at the badminton club. It had been funny and Phoebe had beaten her by many. Since then she was adamant on giving Phoebe a hard time.
Shes given me detention all next week. Sarah stopped laughing and just stared at her. What?
Phoebe next week is when we play in the semi final.
I hate her. She knew all along it was. Phoebe was mad she was about to say something when their head of year came over and also their PE teacher and football coach.
Phoebe, why was Mrs Webster shouting at you? she asked out of curiosity.
Because I have been late three times this week. Twice not being my fault.
Whose fault was it then Phoebe?
Bus.
just the bus?
Yeah, the bus, the school bus is meant to pick us up at 8:35 but it never comes on time. But she doesnt seem to believe me and has given me detention all next week which means I cant play in the semi. Phoebe spoke softly.
This got her attention . I will have a word with her and fix this. But I will only be able to get you off detention on the night we have our big match. The other ones you will have to do. And I will also put a note in all the registers to get the names of all those that get school buses. That way your teachers will be able to tell if a bus is late if a lot of you are missing. Phoebe smiled. Right anyway about the game tonight. Its still on, I was just going to tell you that we have a training session at lunch. I expect all of you to be there.
The rest of the day went well for Phoebe. Nothing happened out of the ordinary. She handed in all her homework and got told off for talking to much. But thats all that happened. Football training had gone well and all the girls were psyched for the match.
Phoebe walked slowly out of the changing room after getting ready for the game and saw her friends stood around talking looking at something. She walked slowly up to them and heard bits and pieces of the conversation. Drunk. who is it? Phoebes dad.
Phoebe couldnt believe it. Her dad was here. But drunk. She sat on the bench near the door and put her boots on. She pushed the tears that were threatening to fall away. She wouldnt let herself cry. She had to remain strong.
Phoebe walked out onto the pitch and towards where her dad was. She could see from here that he was swaying as he stood. She approached him.
Dad. He turned around.
Hey there duckie. I told you I would come.
Yeah I know you did dad. And Im thankful that you came. Here goes nothing she thought. But did you have to have something to drink before you came? he just stared at her. Your embarrassing me. Why cant you ever be sober. Is that to much to ask. Thats all I want. For you to be here with me sober. Not smelling of alcohol. He was about to say something but she carried on. I know mum dying hurt you, but dont you think it did us. You were her husband dad and its okay for you to grieve but please dont drink away your sorrows. You have no idea what it is doing to us as a family. Phoebe was about to continue when she saw Miss Whitley walking over to her. Well talk about this more at her. Please just go home dad. And sort yourself out. He looked at her, not moving. Just go dad. I dont want you here. There she had said it, it had broken her heart but she had said it. Her dad turned and walked away slowly, trying not to stagger.
Phoebe. You ready to play? Miss whitely asked as she approached her. Phoebe turned round. She had tears in her eyes. Are you okay Phoebe?
Phoebe wiped her eyes. Yeah. Sorry.
Phoebe, if you cant play I will understand. I know its been hard these past few months since your mother died and I will understand if you need to go home. She spoke softly.
No its okay. It takes my mind off of things anyways.
Miss whitely looked sadly at her. You sure?
Yeah.
Miss Whitely looked at her then turned and walked towards the rest of the girls.
Phoebe just stood there staring at her dad, wishing that she had not said the things that she did, but she knew that they needed to be said.
Phoebe walked slowly through the front door of the manor. They had won the football match and she had scored a hat trick. She wished her dad would have seen, he would have been so proud. But in her heart she knew she did the right thing telling him some home truths, it had hurt her but she knew it must be done. She was just dreading coming home, as whenever someone said something to her dad about his drinking and about mum he would drown his sorrows more, and she would be left to pick up the pieces yet again.
She put her back pack on the floor along with her sports bag and waked into the kitchen to get herself a drink. She was surprised to see the kitchen tidy, it was usually covered in bottles. Maybe what I said, finally got through to him. She thought as she went to the fridge. But her hopes were dashed as she once again saw a note pinned to the fridge by a magnet. It was Pipers writing. Phoebe opened and sighed. So Piper had tidied up, done the washing, hovering and the dusting. She had even done the bathrooms. Phoebe placed the note back on the fridge and got her self a bottle of water out.
Her hopes that what she said to dad had gotten through had gone. Piper had tidied up not him. And as she walked into the lounge she knew he had once again drowned his sorrows. He was sat in his chair, asleep with a photo album out on his lap. She walked over to it and took it off of him with one hand while she covered him with a blanket with the other. By the side of him was 4 empty larger cans and a half empty bottle of whisky, with a shot glass to the side. Phoebe sighed. One of these days she knew he would die if he continued drinking the way he was. Whisky was not good for him as it was. Phoebe shook her head and went to sit on the sofa. She still had the photo album in her hand, her finger held the place that it was open to when her dad had it.
Tears fell from her eyes as she saw a picture of herself, grinning away holding a trophy in one hand and her hockey stick in another. She was soaked through to the bone. She could remember that day as if it was yesterday. She had been playing for her local city in which her school was in, and they were playing in a tournament that had all the local authorities in their county. There was 4 other teams not including theirs playing. The day before she had been practicing with her dad in the blazing hot sunshine but that day all it did was rain. Her mum and dad were soaked and so was she. There was no shelter except from the viaducts which were away from the astro turf. But both her parents had been adamant about staying and watching her play. And they did, they saw her score goals and they saw her team win the tournament. The tournaments were being played all over the country, as a pilot scheme for one that would run again the following year with the winners of each region going through to the nationals. They had been so proud of her.
Phoebe wiped the tears away from her eyes, and looked at her dad. Couldnt he see that what he was doing was tearing her apart, was killing himself and damaging the family. She looked at him as he snored away, she couldnt understand why he was doing this to himself. She sighed and put the photo album back in the cupboard, looked at her dad once more then walked up the stairs to her bedroom to do the homework she had been set.
Phoebe sat down at her table and began the homework that had been set that day but stopped after 5minutes and looked out the window. She couldnt believe she was inside doing her homework on a beautiful evening. She should be out doing something with her friends. But try as she might she could not pull her self away from the house to do the things 6months ago she had been doing. She had been a rebel, never answering to her parents, always staying out later than she should have. Climbing trees, playing footie, rounders, rugby, you name it she was doing it, she was a tomboy and she didnt care one bit. But that had all changed 6months ago when her mum had died.
Phoebe tore her eyes away from the window and brought them to rest on a picture on her table. A picture of a beautiful woman with beautiful brown eyes and brown wavy hair. Her mother. Phoebe sighed and remembered that dreadful day 6months ago that her world changed for ever.
Phoebe. Can I come in? Phoebe wiped the tears away that had fallen. She didnt like people to see that she had been crying. She thought it was a sign of weakness and she needed to be strong.
Sure Piper. Its your room as well. Phoebe answered. She knew it was piper as Prue would never ask, she would just barge in.
Piper walked into the room. And saw Phoebe sat at her desk. Phoebe, what are you doing in? Its a lovely evening.
Phoebe shrugged. I have to get my homework done.
Need any help?
No thanks. Ive got it. Phoebe turned to look at her homework.
Piper sighed. Phoebe and herself had been growing distant lately and she wanted to know what had happened. What had caused the rift to grow between them. Phoebe can we talk?
Phoebe knew what was coming, but she couldnt deal with it right now. Ive got to get this done. She answered never taking her eyes away from the paper in front of her.
Phoebe you have all night.
Yeah and it might take all night. Phoebe interrupted her.
Phoebe please. We need to talk. Piper approached Phoebe. Please Pheebs.
We dont need to talk Piper. If you were that concerned you would have asked a while ago. Why now all of a sudden. She asked angrily as she turned around.
Ive tried to talk to you. But your always in a rush. A rush to do this a rush to do that. You never sit still and also your always a sleep when I try to talk too.
Precisely asleep. Meaning late at night. Piper if you really wanted to talk, as bad as you sound like you do. You would have asked me, like I said, a while ago. Not now. Now is too late. Phoebe slammed her pen down on her desk. If you dont mind Im trying to work here.
Pipers shoulders sagged and she tuned around and walked out the door.
Phoebe was left to dwell over what was said. She couldnt believe she had been so harsh on her sister. All she had done is shown her love and concern and she had thrown it back in her face. Piper didnt deserve that, not one bit. Why am I such a terrible sister? Phoebe thought to herself. All kinds of answers were flying through her head. She tried to shake them away but try as she might she could not get them to go. Phoebe sighed in frustration and walked down stairs, going into the kitchen. Phoebe saw Piper at the stove. Man it has been a long time since she has cooked. Phoebe thought. She approached her sister and wrapped her arms around her waist.
Mmmm, that smells nice.
Its your favourite. Phoebe smiled. It should be ready within 20minutes.
Okay. Well is it okay if I just sit here and watch you cook?
Sure it is. You know that. Just dont touch anything.
Phoebe raised her eyebrows. Would I do such a thing. Piper just stared at her. Okay, okay I wont touch a dime.
Phoebe continued to watch her sister around the kitchen. She couldnt believe how good she was. She defiantly needs to become a chef.
Piper looked up from what she was doing and saw Phoebe staring at her. A million thoughts rushed through Pipers head, as to what could be wrong with her. She knew something was troubling her little sister. She just couldnt put her finger on it. Piper was shocked out of her thoughts by Phoebes voice penetrating her brain.
Im sorry for earlier Piper. I shouldnt have been so callous. Phoebe sat twiddling her thumbs. Looking intently at Piper, as if she would disappear any second.
Hey its okay. It should be me who is apologising not you. I mean Im the one that has messed up. The one. A thought occurred in Pipers head as to why Phoebe was so mad at her. Piper cursed her self. Why had it taken so long for her to realise. that has been ignoring you, pushing you away. And Im sorry for that.
Phoebe smiled. She knew what piper said was partly true. She had been pushing her away but that wasnt the main reason. She hoped Piper would figure it out soon. Its okay. Youve been busy with college.
I know but still that doesnt excuse it, I should. But Piper was interrupted as their father staggered into the kitchen.
He went straight to the fridge and pulled two cans of larger out. He turned around and was surprised to see two of his daughters standing there. One he hadnt seen in a few days and the other he had only seen that afternoon. The one that had hurt his feelings.
Hello Piper. Nice to finally see you. He slurred as he smiled at Piper. As he turned to Phoebe his smile dropped. He just stared at her for a little while and walked away. Back into the lounge.
Piper looked at Phoebe. Woah. Dads pissed.
Youve just noticed. Phoebe interrupted sarcastically.
If you would let me finish. I was about to say that dad is pissed at you. Phoebe just shrugged. What happened Phoebe?
Phoebe so did not want to talk about it. She wouldnt understand what she was feeling. She had hurt her dad in the worst possible way. And she didnt know how to fix it.
I um told him a few home truths. Phoebe whispered. Just loud enough for Piper to hear.
You did what?! Piper couldnt believe this. Everyone knew not to tell their father true facts as he always went off the deep end as he could not deal. I cant believe you Phoebe. You know what dad gets like when someone does that!
Phoebe couldnt believe what she was hearing. Her sister was defending a man who she had not had a conversation with in weeks. A man who drank until he was yellow in the face. A man who had humiliated her time and time again. But then again, her sisters did not know that. They looked the other way when things like that happened. As long as it didnt happen to them they didnt care.
Piper. It wasnt like that. Phoebe spoke softly.
Then what was it like? Piper asked angrily.
Phoebe couldnt believe what was happening. One minute they were laughing the next Piper was mad at her.
I didnt do anything wrong. Why do you automatically assume that I did something? Why couldnt it have been dad that had done something?
Piper stared at Phoebe. You told him some facts. Facts that have upset him, which has caused him to drink. What did you say?
Phoebe couldnt believe what she was hearing. Facts which have caused him to drink! Phoebe raised her voice. What planet are you living on Piper?
What do you mean?
You know damn well what I am getting at Piper. Dad has been drinking for as long as I can remember. He drinks because he wants to. His Choice, nobody elses. And he drowns his sorrows more when people tell him some truths. Which is still his own choice. If he didnt drink then no one would tell him facts, facts that he should already know, facts that make him upset. So Im sooo sorry that you feel that I have done something wrong. Maybe you should go ask him what happened. Why he decided to turn up to my footie match drunk. Why he is so pent on humiliating me more than he already has. Why Piper, why?
Piper stood there shocked at Phoebes outburst, watching Phoebe storm out of the house.
Oh my god. Piper whispered. Why didnt I see this sooner.
Phoebe ran out of the manor, tears streaming down her face. She couldnt understand how Piper could turn the situation around and place the blame on her. All Phoebe had been doing was taking care of their father while she and Prue pretended that nothing was wrong. A hell of a lot was wrong with their family and they needed to sit down and discuss it. Whether it hurt or not. Phoebe picked up her bicycle and rode down the street. She didnt know where she was heading, but at that particular moment she didnt care. All she cared about was getting away from the manor. And forgetting what had just gone down.
Piper stood in the kitchen, she had turned off the pans and the oven and was now stood staring out the window into the back yard. She was waiting for Prue to arrive home so that they could discuss what she had just witnessed. She had rung Prue and the first thing Prue had asked when she had told her about Phoebe, was the same reply Piper gave to Phoebe. Piper then understood the hurt Phoebe must have felt and that she must be feeling now. Piper didnt know what she could do, to make it up to her.
Phoebe continued to ride her bike. She had been riding for a while, going no where in particular. Just riding around trying to sort things out in her head. She needed to get away from the manor, she couldnt deal to be there right now. Phoebe looked up and saw that she was approaching the cemetery. She had only been here twice since her mother died. As she couldnt bring her self to do so. As she couldnt bring herself to believe that he mum was gone and she was never going to come back again.
Piper had retreated to her room. 2 hours had past since Phoebe had gone, 2hours since she had rung Prue. And neither sister had returned to the manor. Piper was getting mad. Prue had said she would be home straight away. But she was yet to make an appearance. Piper wondered if this is what Phoebe did all the time. Just sit at home, worrying where they were and what time they would be home. Piper hadnt even thought about what Phoebe might be going through, what she was having to deal with as she couldnt bring herself to comprehend what had happened in the last 6months, and let herself deal. Im a terrible sister. I am so selfish.
Piper was brought out of her thoughts by Prue walking into her room.
Hey Piper. Piper looked up, and gave Prue a scowl. What? What have I done?
gWhat time do you call this Prue? I rang you two hours ago!h
gI wasnft just going to drop what I was doing to come running home for a little fit Phoebe had.h
gPrue this is much more serious than a little fit.h
gHow so?h
gPrue when was the last time you were in the same house, the same room as Phoebe?h
Prue just looked at her, unable to answer. gokay scratch that, when was the last time you had a conversation with her?h Again Prue couldnft answer. gMy point exactly. We havenft been spending anytime with Phoebe. We havenft helped her get over the loss of mum, we have left her to deal with dad herself.h
gPiper, I spent so long looking after dad and as for mum, I havenft gotten over it either.h
gYeah but we have had each other to talk to and friends. Phoebe has had no one.h
gShe has had her friends.h
gNo she hasnft Prue. Her friends have deserted her as she doesnft go out with them anymore because she has to stay here and make sure dad is okay. She hasnft had anyone, and its eating her away. She is alone and confused. And we need to help her.h
gWhat do we do?h Prue asked quietly. She had no idea what was going on with Phoebe, and before now she hadnft even crossed her mind. She was too wrapped up in herself.
gWe go and find her.h Piper began to walk to the door.
gWhat do you mean we go find her. Isnft she here?h
Piper stopped and turned to face Prue. gDidnft you listen to what I said to you on the phone.h Prue shook her head no. Piper sighed. gI said that we had a confrontation and she spilt. I have no idea where she has gone. All I know is that I hurt her feelings and I have got to make that right.h
gCorrection Piper. If what you say is true then it is eweh who need to make it right.h

Phoebe got off of her bike and stood it against a tree. She walked over to her mumhs grave and knelt at the base of it. Looking at the tombstone.
eHere Lies Patricia Halliwell,
Beloved mother of Prudence, Piper and Phoebe,
Loving wife of Victor Bennett and
Daughter of Penelope Halliwell.
May she rest in Peace.
May 19th 1961 C November 30th 2002.h
gI miss you mum.h Phoebe whispered placing a rose on her grave. gI donft know what to do anymore. Ihm trying my hardest but it doesnft seem to be working. Prue hates me, Piper blames me for Dadhs illness and dad, well dad is still the same way, just worse. He hasnft handled your death well at all. Which is understandable but he isnft letting us grieve you either. Its been six months but it still feels like it was yesterday. It hurts so much mum. I donft know what to do. Please tell me what to do, please come back to me. I need you.h Phoebe placed her head in her hands as the sobs shook her body.
She hadnft had a chance to cry, to grieve the loss of her mother. She had been to busy taking care of her sisters, making sure they were all right and making sure her dad survived to live another day. But it was taking its toll on her and she needed to let go. Let go of all the hurt, of all the grief that was inside her. She needed to let go or it would eat away at her.
Phoebe quickly spun around as she heard a noise behind her. She breathed a sign of relief. She had thought it would be Piper, but it was just a rabbit scurrying across the grass. A small smile played across her face. gThanks mum.h She knew, somehow, that her mum had sent her a sign. A sign that she had heard her, a sign that she would be fine.
Phoebe stood up and collected her bike, riding away. As much as she wanted to go home. And as much as her mumhs little surprise had reassured her, she still could not face her sisters. She was feeling insecure. And she didnft want her sisters to play on that, she didnft want her sisters to blame her for everything that had happened. Especially their dads alcoholism and their mums death. She knew her sisters would not think that, but she couldnft shake the feeling that it was her fault her mum had died. It was her fault that her dad preferred the booze to his daughters.
gPiper she was here.h Piper looked up at Prue. gLook.h Prue pointed to a single red rose at the base of their mothers grave. gAnd there is tyre marks from her bike. But I donft know which way she went as there is two sets. One from the north entrance and one from the west entrance.h
Piper and Prue had noticed that Phoebehs bike had gone when they had gone out onto the porch.
Piper shook her head. She didnft know which way Phoebe would have come or gone, if she was on her bike.
Prue walked up to Piper and wrapped an arm around her shoulders. gcome on Pipe. We will find her donft worry.h Prue began to walk away, but stopped noticing Piper was following. gPiper?h
gCan I just have a minute?h
Prue understanding what Piper was asking, nodded her head. Truth be told, Prue needed a minute as well. Both of them needed to grieve for their mother, which they had not properly done. Prue walked up behind Piper and placed her head on her shoulder, drawing her in to a hug.
gShe would be so disappointed in us.h
Prue couldnft believe what she was hearing. gNo she wouldnft Piper. She would never be disappointed with us.h
gbut Phoebe.h
gPhoebe is having a hard time letting go, like us. You told me that. And if that is true then Phoebe needs our support now more than anything. We have been pushing her away, ignoring her, lying the burden of dad on her and we need to stop it. Dad is the one to blame here.h Prue saw Piper look at her in shock. gPiper you have got to stop living in that fairy tale world of yours, where dad is perfect. He isnft. he is an alcoholic and we have been laying the burden of him on Phoebe. And we need to help her. We need to all take responsibility of taking care of dad, and he more than anything needs to take more responsibility for himself, he needs to let go of mum and move on. And the only way he can do that is to stop being stubborn and let this family help him.h
***
Prue and Piper walked in to the manor talking quietly.
gPiper, we looked everywhere.h
gI know.h Piper looked down at her shoes.
gPiper. You hear that?h
gDad snoring. Yeah.h
gNo that music.h Prue started walking up the stairs. gCome on Piper.h
Piper followed Prue up the stairs and stopped outside Phoebehs room. Where the music was coming from. Prue knocked on the door.
Phoebe had returned home after riding around for a bit. She needed to clear her head and she had done that partially. She just needed some more time to work other things out. Like where she stood with her sisters. And how she could help her dad. She had put on her stereo and was just selecting some songs her cdhs to burn onto one when there was a knock at her door. She pressed play on the cd player and walked to the door.
Prue and Piper waited patiently, they didnft like the music Phoebe listened to and they were growing agitated waiting for her, a minute had gone by then the door opened.
Phoebe opened the door, gave them a small smile then walked into her room. Leaving her sisters stood there. She walked back to her stereo and turned the volume down. But not before Piper and Prue both heard a part of the song that was being played.
The worldhs nothing but a lie and everyone is going to die
But what can I say? Just help me make it through today.
You donft need a destination just to go somewhere in life.
Itfs like throwing feathers at the wind C
They come right back to you again.
So why not give it one more try?
Just cause things arenft what they seem
It doesnft mean you shouldnft dream
Just donft get your hopes to high.
Causeh when things donft turn out right
Your world comes crashing down.
Phoebe turned to look at them. Still leaving the music playing. gSo?h
Prue and Piper were both brought out of their thoughts by her voice.
gHi.h Piper smiled shyly. She knew she had hurt her baby sister with what she had said and she didnft know yet if she had forgiven her. gLook Phoebe.h
gDonft worry about it.h Phoebe just shrugged. Truth was she was still hurt by what Piper had said but she didnft want to get into that discussion again. gWhat brings you two by? Youhre never home at this time.h Phoebe said directing the last part to Prue.
Prue winced, she knew she deserved that. gWe thought we would come by and have a talk. Its been along time since we have been in the same room together.h
gWhohs fault is that?h
gLook Phoebe, we are sorry okay. We were hurting and didnft know what to do.h
gYou were hurting?h Phoebe snorted sarcastically. gWhat about me? Donft I exist or something.h
gPhoebe please.h
Phoebe just shook her head. gLook I know that you want to talk. And I will talk but you have to promise that it wont turn into an argument and the blaming game like it does all the time.h
gOkay. I promise I wonft yell.h Piper said. Prue nodded in agreement.
gOkay then.h Phoebe went to her stereo again and stopped the music that was playing then put on another CD. Once that CD was in she went and sat on her bed. Prue and Piper just stood there. gWhat?h
gDonft you want to talk downstairs?h
gnope here will do fine Pipe. I donft want dad disturbing us.h
gOkay. Fair enough I guess.h Piper went and sat at the end of her bed, Prue going to sit next to her.
Prue looked her hands. gWhere to start?h she muttered to herself.
Piper nudged her. gFrom the beginning I guess.h She replied quietly.
Phoebe sat staring at them, thoughts running threw her head. eI hope every thing works out.h
Piper looked at Phoebe and saw her staring at her. Piper offered a weak smile, Phoebe averted her gaze to Prue. Pipers head dropped, she knew Phoebe was still upset with her.
Phoebe, we are sorry we havent been here since, since mum died. Were sorry we left you to deal with everything by yourself and to deal with dad. Prue started.
Why did you to that Prue? All I want to know is why you let me deal by myself when I needed sisters and why you left me with dad. Dont get me wrong I love him and all but looking after him is not what I wanted to be doing with my time.
I know. Look I left you with dad because I had had enough of looking after him. Making sure he was alright and that. And when mum died I knew I would have to do it more, like 24/7 and I wasnt up for that so I tried to spend more and more time away from here. I didnt know I was hurting you in the process.
Thats bull Prue and you know it! Phoebe spoke angrily. Prue just looked her. You knew what you were doing. You were being selfish.
Phoebe. Prue tried to speak.
No Prue. You thought you would get back at me. At me! Not at Piper and me. Just me! Because I was the nave little girl who took everything for granted. Who didnt think twice about going out, who didnt think what you had to do to help this family survive. And then when mum died a part of you died with her and you stopped caring about dad and if this family stayed together. All you cared about was yourself.
Phoebe that isnt true. Prue voice raised.
Isnt it Prue. Look me in the eyes and tell me I am wrong that you werent being selfish. Prue sighed and looked away. See you cant do it can you.
Piper had been sitting quietly letting her sisters have a little heart to heart but she was shocked by what Phoebe had said. She hadnt seen that. And then when Prue couldnt do what Phoebe had asked, she knew what she had said was true. Piper turned her head to look at Prue and could see the sorrow and hurt in her eyes. But as Piper looked closer she could see the anger raging within. She knew something was going to go down. She looked at Phoebe and saw that she was looking anywhere but at them, having what she expected to be true had shocked her. She expected Prue to deny it but she hadnt. Piper looked back at Prue. Her anger had over taken the hurt and sorrow in her eyes.
Prue? Piper asked as Prue suddenly stood up from the bed.
Okay Phoebe you win! Yes all I cared about after mum died was myself. I didnt care about you. And you want to know why?
Piper stood up shocked. She knew what was going to come out of Prues mouth. Prue had already told her what she felt. Piper made a grab for Prues hand, to try and stop her from what she was about to say. Prue dont.
No Piper she needs to know. Prue said rage running through her body
No she doesnt Prue.
Yes I do Piper. Piper spun around to see Phoebe still sat on the bed, looking up at them. Piper just shook her head and walked from the room. Both Prue and Phoebe looked on after her. So why didnt you care about me?
Prue had calmed down a little as she saw how sad Piper looked. It doesnt matter now.
Phoebe was annoyed. Yes it does or else you wouldnt have brought it up. So just tell me!
Phoebe honestly it doesnt matter. Prue replied.
Prue, this is exactly what else was going to say. You and Piper keep things from me all the time, like Im not old enough to understand a lot of things. And I am sick of it. Im 14 not 3! Now tell me why the hell you dont care about me. I have a right to know!
Prue still not raising her voice, looked at Phoebe. I dont, I didnt care about you because." Prue paused and looked away "Because I blamed you for mums death.
There the bombshell was dropped. Phoebe looked at Prue shocked. Tears started falling down her face. She had tried to deny the feelings she had been feeling about her mothers death, and how it was all her fault and she had done pretty well. She had started to believe it wasnt her fault. That it was just a tragic accident, but hearing it come from Prues mouth made all her thoughts and feelings come back.
Get Out! Phoebe spoke.
Phoebe.
I said GET OUT! Phoebe screamed.
Prue looked at phoebe, wishing she had never said it, but Phoebe had pushed her. Im sorry. Prue whispered as she walked out of the room. Phoebe stood in the same spot staring at her sister as she walked out of the room. As the door shut Phoebe broke down.
Prue shut the door on her way out. Tears beginning to fall. Piper was stood in the entrance to Prues room. Prue walked past her and sat on her bed.
Piper I messed up. Piper just stood in the doorway, nodding her head. I didnt mean to say what I did, but she pushed me and it just came out. Piper I dont blame her for mums death. I dont.
I know that Prue. But you did. And that is all that matters to Phoebe. You blamed Phoebe for the death of the most important person in her life. I dont think she will get over this Prue.
What do I do Pipe?
Give her time. Then try and explain it to her, why you felt that way. And tell her, no matter what she says or does. That you DO NOT blame her. That is the most important thing here. Nothing else.
Prue nodded her head wiping at the tears that had fallen. Thank you Piper.
Piper remained quiet. She was thinking things over. What you thinking?
Just stuff. You know. Piper shrugged.
Want to tell me? Prue patted the space next to her on her bed.
Piper remained where she was, she was angry at Prue for saying what she did to Phoebe and what she had said earlier. Prue looked hurt.
Prue. Im angry at you okay. Im angry that you didnt care about Phoebe after mum died. Im angry that you were being selfish with dad and everything.
Piper. Im sorry okay. I was grieving.
I know that Prue. But you need to stop being selfish. You can grieve but dont be selfish.
Okay. Prue looked down, then she stood up and walked past Piper.
Where are you going Prue? Piper asked walking after her sister, afraid she might go and apologise to Phoebe now.
Im going to sort dad out.
But Prue..
No Piper. Stop sticking up for him. You heard what Phoebe said. And you have seen for yourself what he is like. So stop it, Ive had enough. He isnt the perfect dad he once was. That changed along time ago. And you need to get over it. And quick! Prue said angrily as she walked down the stairs.
Piper trailed after her. She knew her dad wasnt perfect. She just wised he was. She knew she had to get over it, and she was trying. It was just hard.
Piper was brought out of her thoughts by Prue shouting.
DAD! GET UP! Prue shook him. I SAID GET UP! Prue shook him again, this time getting a moan out of him. GET UP!
Their dad groaned. what? He got out.
GET UP! Prue shouted again.
Their dad opened his eyes. Shocked to see his eldest daughter in front of him. What do you want Prue?
I want you to get up, right now. I want you to stop feeling sorry for yourself. Mums gone and she is never coming back. It hurts I know it does. But you have got to carry on living. If not for yourself, then for us. Prue quietened down.
Leave me alone Prue.
Piper was stood quietly to the side of Prue. Dad she is right. You need to get up. You need to stop this. You are going to kill yourself. Piper had tears in her eyes.
Both Prue and their dad were shocked by Pipers words. Their dad more than anybody. Piper ran from the room.
Prue watched after her, then turned back to her father. Look what you are doing to us. Phoebe blames herself for mums death Prue winced as she spoke, remembering the argument they had had. And Piper is terrified of loosing you. Cant you see that dad. We are all frightened and we are all sad. You need to stop drowning your sorrows and help us with it. We need your help dad. Nobody elses, just yours. Please help us dad.
Prue stopped and looked in her dads eyes. She knew what she and Piper had said was getting through to him.
Phoebe blames herself? he asked sadly. Prue nodded, trying to stop the tears that were starting to fall.
There was a long pause. Prue was about to go when he spoke up.
Okay Prue. Ill try.
Prue turned around. Thats all Im, were asking for.
***
A few weeks had passed. Things in the manor were getting better but there was still things that were as worse as before.
Prue and Piper had gotten through to their father and he had started AA meetings. He knew he had to get help, he knew he had gone too far to stop by himself. It was hard but he had been sober for three weeks. Since the chat he had had with Prue and Piper.
Things between Prue and Phoebe hadnt improved. Phoebe had been avoiding Prue. Coming home late, going early. It was like they had switched roles. Prue was trying her hardest to get Phoebe to stay in the same room as her for more than 30seconds. But so far it hadnt worked. Piper was also trying, but Phoebe was ignoring her too.
Prue we need to do something. Piper spoke softly to Prue as they sat down to eat their evening meal. Without Phoebe or their father. They knew where their dad was, he was at an AA meeting but Phoebe they had no idea where she was.
I know Piper. But what. As you can see Prue pointed to where Phoebe should be sat. She is avoiding us.
I know that. But we have to do something. I know she has another Football tournament tomorrow. Maybe we could go and watch her, you know surprise her, then take her out for a meal or something?
Prue nodded her head. That sounds like a great idea, but I doubt she will want to come with us.
We have to try this Prue. Its the only way I can think of at the moment. Piper sighed. I would try and get her to come home for dinner, but she will just bolt as soon as she sees you sat at the table. Prue winced. Im sorry Prue but its true.
I know, it is. And I have to get used to it.
No you dont Prue. What happened weeks ago was that both of you were angry. And you said some hurtful things. You need to explain to Phoebe what you meant. I believe that when she hears your explanation, she will come around.
Piper. Dont get your hopes up. You didnt see the way she looked at me yesterday.
Prue. Stop beating yourself up. You got through to dad. Now try and get through to yourself.
Phoebe was sat upstairs. She had returned home without Prue or Piper noticing. She was halfway up the stairs when the conversation they were having turned to her. She had stopped in her tracks when she heard Prue talk. They started to talk about the day their mother had died. This upset Phoebe as she knew Prue blamed her for it. But what came out of both Prues and Pipers mouth surprised her. Phoebe let the tears fall. She couldnt believe what she was hearing.
Prue walked round the corner from the kitchen to walk up the stairs when she stopped. Phoebe was sat there. Tears running down her face.
Im sorry Prue. Phoebe cried.
Prue just stood there taking in her sisters appearance. She looked so tired. So worn out. Come here baby. Prue held her arms open and Phoebe ran into the much needed embrace. Prue rocked her as the tears continued to fall from Phoebes eyes. Shh baby. Let it all out, Im here. Im here.
Prue held Phoebe for dear life. She wasnt going to let her go anytime soon. Phoebe. Im sorry. It shouldnt be you who is apologising. It should be me.
Phoebe shook her head, that was laying on Prues chest. I need to apologise too.
No you dont Phoebe.
Yes I do. I need to apologise for mums death.
Prue was shocked. Phoebe.
No Prue. It was my fault. Even you think that. Phoebe let go of the tight hold she had had on Prue and pulled away. Im sorry.
Prue watched as Phoebe ran upstairs. Tears rolling down her cheeks. Piper had walked into the foyer. And had heard parts of the conversation.
Prue.
Im going Piper. Prue walked up the stairs to Phoebes room.
Phoebe can I come in? no answer so Prue just walked in. Phoebe we need to talk.
Phoebe was lying on her bed, head in her pillow. Prue walked over and gently rubbed her back. Phoebe dont cry. Please dont.
Phoebe lifted her head and turned it so she could see Prue. Why are you being nice to me. You said you blamed me.
Phoebe. Precisely Blamed as in past tense. Prue moved some hair away from Phoebes face. But I was being stupid then. I was upset and mum was never coming back. I needed someone to blame. But I should never have blamed you. I was inconsiderate and selfish and Im sorry.
But it was my fault Prue. Prue was about to speak but Phoebe held up her hand. If I hadnt of asked her to go out for me, then she would still be here.
Phoebe you cant think that. You were poorly. You had asked mum to go out and buy you some medicine.
Exactly. I had asked her and she went. She went and she got killed. Killed crossing the road to go into the pharmacy for me!
Phoebe she would have gone if you asked her or not. You were poorly and we had nothing in the house. Phoebe closed her eyes. Phoebe please dont think like that.
Phoebe opened her eyes that were fill of tears. I want to be left alone.
Prue sighed, she knew getting through to Phoebe would be hard. Phoebe Im not leaving you. You have been left alone to often these last few months. We need to work through this, both you, me and Piper.
Prue. I want to be left alone.
Prue had had enough. To do what? Wallow in self pity? Phoebe turned her head away from her. Well tuff luck, Im not letting you. You have had long enough. Its time you realised that it wasnt your fault and that this family loves you.
Phoebe was taking in everything Prue was saying, but it was still hard for her to get over the guilt she felt. She was thinking about the last words Prue had just spoken. Family loves you.
Wheres dad? Phoebe asked. She hadnt really been following what was happening with her family. She had seen her dad now and then but it was always in the morning. Whenever she had come home in the evening he was either in bed or out.
Prue smiled. She knew that Phoebe didnt know. He is at a AA meeting.
Phoebe just stared at her in disbelief. No seriously where is dad?
Prue laughed. Thats my phoebe she thought. Seriously he is at an AA meeting. Isnt he Piper?
Piper came from behind the door. How did you know I was there? she asked in surprise.
You breathe heavily and you always do that to make sure Im not being to hard on Phoebe.
Piper laughed. oh right. She looked at Phoebe. Hi Pheebs.
Phoebe just sat there. Pipers smiled turned upside down. But she smiled again when she noticed Phoebe had her arms open to her. Piper walked into her embrace. Hugging her back with as much force. I love you Phoebe whispered.
I love you too. And Im sorry.
It doesnt matter now. Phoebe let go and looked at Prue.
Prue. Phoebe asked quietly. Prue looked at Phoebe. Can we all go out for a meal? All of us, dad included. Like we used to.
Prue and Piper both smiled. I think that is an excellent idea. They both stood up, but Phoebe stopped them.
Umm, can we stop off at mums grave on the way back? I want to say goodbye properly. Phoebe looked down. You know to get over this guilt and self pity.
Prue walked over to Phoebe and picked her up. Phoebe rested her head on Prues shoulder and wrapped her legs around her waist, like she used to do when she was younger. Sure we can baby. I think me and Piper need to say our goodbyes properly as well. And I have a feeling dad will want to also.
That evening all 4 Halliwells paid a visit to Patty, all of them expressing their feelings about what had happened and their hopes for the future.
Phoebe was the last one to talk to their mum. Mum, I miss you so much, it hurts really bad. I made a mistake 7months ago. And Im sorry for that. But Prue and Piper are helping me overcome what I feel about the accident, and dad is helping too. But I dont think he realises it. He has started to go to AA meetings and I couldnt be more proud of him. You would be too. Piper, well she has been my rock these last few months. Helping me where she can, but I kept pushing her away, but she kept coming back, no matter how much I hurt her. I hope she realises also that she made a big impact these last months, and Prue. Well you know how us two are. Always at each others throats. But we talked and we worked everything out. It hurt when she blamed me for your death, but in time I realised that she was hurting and said it because of that. Prue has been my saviour, she really has. And I hope that she realises that I love her so very much for what she has done for me. I love all my family mum and I have you to thank for that. I hope you are having fun up there and you know how much we all miss you.
Phoebe stood up and walked to the head stone, gently laying a red rose on the top.
I love you with all my heart. Phoebe kissed the headstone softly. Goodbye.
Phoebe walked slowly back to her sisters and father, who all drew her into a hug.
We are Proud of you Phoebe. Her dad spoke softly to her. And your mum would be too.
End of this story
