Prue = 15
Piper = 13
Phoebe =10
“Prue, you ready yet?” 12yr old Piper called up to her sister.
“Yeah just give us a sec, is Phoebe down there? I can’t find her anywhere!” Prue groaned in frustration.
Piper laughed. “Prue she is already ready, waiting in the car with Grams. All we are doing now is waiting for you to get your butt down here!”
Prue emerged at the top of the stairs with a suitcase in hand. “Okay, okay I’m ready. Let’s get going”
Prue made her way down the stairs and out of the door Piper following, to the car
“So Piper, you looking forward to this?” Prue asked as they both got into the car.
“I guess. I mean I’ve always wanted to try it, its just I’m not very athletic like you and Pheebs. So I don’t know if I will be any good?”
“You will Piper. Don’t be so pessimistic. You just got to try.”
“But Prue we are going with school.”
Prue interrupted her “so what? What does that have to do with the price of fish Piper? We are going to enjoy ourselves and no moaning. Okay?”
“Yeah I guess. But don’t blame me if I ruin your holiday!”
“It’s already ruined” Prue whispered under her breathe as the car began to move.
“What?” Piper asked
“I was just wondering why Phoebe had to come along. I mean she doesn’t even go to our school yet, but she is still allowed to tag along. It just isn’t fair. She will have her chance when she goes to high school.”
“Prue, stop being such a baby. Would you rather her be at home all by herself for a week or with us. Where it is safe?”
“With us. But Grams knew we were going away. She knew it!”
“Prue for gods sake” Piper whispered. “Grams can’t help it that Aunt Gail got sick. We are the only family she has, and she needs help. You’re just being selfish”
Prue looked shocked. “I’m not Piper. I’m just saying that this holiday has been planned for a long time. And Phoebe can just jump on board like that” Prue clicked her fingers to show her point.
“Prue. Where else would she go? The teachers allowed for this. If it’s okay by them, it’s okay. So just be quiet. And stop moaning.”
*****
The car journey to the High school was made in silence. No one talking, all to excited
and annoyed to speak.
“Right girls. Be careful, look out for one another.” She looked at Prue. “And have a great time. And I will see you in a week.” Grams hugged each daughter as they made their way to the coach that was to take them to their destination.
“Prue. Can I sit with you?” Phoebe asked quietly as they walked up the stairs on the coach.
Prue looked annoyed. “No Phoebe you can’t!”
“But..”
“No Phoebe. I’m sitting back there.” Prue pointed to the back of the coach. “With my friends. You can sit anywhere around here as long as you keep away from me.” Prue walked away to join her friends.
Phoebe felt a hand on her shoulder. “Hey sweetie, you can sit near me. I’m sitting here with Bec. But you’re welcome to sit in front of us or at the side of us. Its up to you.”
Phoebe smiled at Piper. “Thanks. I think I’ll sit over there. I know how much you two have been looking forward to this holiday. I won’t spoil it.” Phoebe said speaking beyond her years.
“Phoebe, your not. Please. You can sit near me. I don’t mind, and Bec doesn’t either. Plus what would I do if I didn’t have my baby sister to pester all the way there” Piper grinned which caused Phoebe to.
“Okay.”
“Great.”
The teachers had done a head count and everyone was settled, as the coach pulled out of the school parking lot. Everyone waving to their parents or guardians. With them blowing back kisses.
****
“Piper?” Phoebe knelt on her seat so she could see Piper.
“Yeah Pheebs?”
“How long have we got till we get there?”
Piper laughed. “Phoebe, we have only been on the road for 2 hours. Plenty more hours to pass before we arrive. I don’t know exactly how long, but I know we won’t be there until dark.”
Phoebe turned back in her seat. “oh okay.”
****
Phoebe felt someone shaking her. “No, go away. Leave me. I don’t want to get up.”
Phoebe heard laughter that sounded all too familiar.
“Phoebe, we are here! Get up!”
Phoebe’s eyes snapped open as she heard those words “we are here? Finally”
“You could say that.” Piper laughed. “Come on sleepy bones. We’ve got to get our luggage then go check in. You’re sharing a room with me and Bec. So come on.”
The group of school children trudged into the reception of the hotel, all tired from their long journey. Each was given a key card with the room number on and told to go on up and be back down in 30 minutes for the evening meal.
“Piper, I can’t carry my suitcase. Its too heavy.”
“Come on Pheebs, you can. You only have to manage to the lift. Then its plain sailing from there.”
“But Piper?!”
“Oh what’s the baby whining about now. Can’t you carry your suitcase. Then you shouldn’t have come!” Prue stated angrily as she walked past.
Phoebe looked upset.
“Phoebe just ignore her. She’s just angry at Grams and she’s taking it out on you. Its not your fault.”
Phoebe looked down at her feet, then at her suitcase. “Okay.” She replied as she started to drag the suitcase to the lift. Piper and Bec following.
****
30 minutes later all the children were in the main restaurant area.
“Hello Boys and Girls. I’m Lisa. I’ll be helping you with any enquires and providing you with your entertainment all this week. So let me start by welcoming you all to Lake Tahoe!”
“Right Phoebe, put your foot in, bend your knee and lean forward” The ski instructor said as he fastened Phoebe’s boots. “How does that feel?”
Phoebe shook her leg. “Tight.”
“It’s meant to be tight Phoebe. As long as your can move your foot its all set.” The instructor smiled.
“Thanks.
“Right, pick up your ski’s, like this.” The instructor showed how to do it. Putting the skis on his shoulder. “And follow me.”
The Instructor along with 5 other ski instructors lead the way to the nursery slopes, were they would sort out the groups.
A lady with Blonde hair turned to face the group of school children. “Okay, I would like all the ones who have skied before to my left and all the beginners to my right.”
Most of the children went to her right, including Prue, Piper and Phoebe. Two instructors went with the people who had skied before and three went to the beginners.
“Hey Guys, my name is Laura. I’m just going to sort you out into groups. But first I want you to get with another person, the person you told your teacher back in San Francisco you wanted to ski with. This is so you at least have a friend to ski with.” Laura smiled, remembering her first time skiing.
There was a bit of commotion as everyone paired up with their friends.
“Piper. Who do I go with?”
Piper looked at Phoebe. “I don’t know Pheebs. Just stand by me.”
“All you guys in pairs?” Laura asked as she looked around.
Phoebe looked up and raised her hand in the air shyly. “I’m not.”
Laura looked at the girl. “Your Phoebe right?” Phoebe nodded. “Don’t worry. Your in my group so come and stand by me.”
Phoebe slowly picked up her ski’s and walked to stand behind Laura, trying not to fall as she found it difficult walking in the boots.
“Okay. Your teachers informed me that there are 15 people who have skied before, they are gone. Which leaves 30 of you that haven’t skied before. So that’s ten in each group. Ten of you will go with me, Laura. And ten with Lee and another ten will go with Liam. We have your names on a list as to who each of you will go with. When I call your name please go and stand with the instructor I have said. Okay the ten that will go with Lee are as follows, Paul and Steven, Michael and Sean, Prue and Caroline.” The instructor trailed off. “And the ones with Liam are Victoria and Sarah, Piper and Rebecca... right that leaves ten with me.”
Every body was with their ski instructors. Prue with Lee, Piper with Liam and Phoebe with Laura.
Piper smiled at Phoebe, telling her it would be okay and that she would see her at lunch. “Go and enjoy yourself.” Piper mouthed as she was led away with the rest of her group.
****
Phoebe walked into the restaurant, grabbing a plate and going around the buffet table getting what she wanted. She walked over to a table and sat down.
“Hey Phoebe.”
Phoebe looked up, to see Piper smiling down at her. “Hi.”
Piper frowned. “What’s up Phoebe?”
“Nothing.”
Piper sat down with her plate. “There is. Tell me.”
“It’s nothing. I’m just being silly.”
“What? Aren’t you enjoying skiing?”
“Of course! I’m loving it.”
“Then what is it?”
Phoebe sighed. “I just wanted to be with you.”
“Aw sweetie. I know you did. But they already had all the groups sorted. I’m sorry. You will still see me in the morning, Lunch, Dinner and after that.”
“I know, I’m just being stupid.”
“No your not Pheebs. But try to enjoy yourself ok?” Phoebe nodded. “Good.”
****
“Phoebe, that’s its. Just push on the insides of your ski’s a bit more. And try to open your skis a bit more at the back. So it’s in a ‘V’ shape. And you will have perfected the ski plough.” Laura smiled. Phoebe just nodded her head. “Right guys, that’s it for the day now. So today you’ve learned how to stop, and turn corners using the plough technique. Tomorrow we will develop these further. So take off your ski’s like I taught you, using your poles to steady yourselves.”
The ten people in the group all took there ski’s off and trudged back to the storage building to place them before they went inside to get ready for the evening meal.
****
Phoebe was rudely awakened. “Hey squirt, get up. Its time for dinner.”
“I’m not hungry.” Phoebe said squatting the hand away.
“Come on Phoebe. Get up. Time to eat.”
“Oh, Okay Piper.” Phoebe rubbed her eyes as she sat up. “What time is it?”
Piper looked at her watch. “It’s 6pm. you’ve been asleep for nearly two hours. I got back from skiing to find you asleep up here.”
Phoebe just nodded her head.
“So you enjoy it?”
“Yeah loads.” Phoebe said with enthusiasm. “How about you?” Phoebe asked as they walked to the lift.
“Same. It was great. But I’m starved now.” Piper laughed.
The evening pasted with no incidents.
The next day was similar. The girls went out skiing, gong over what they learnt the previous day, improving and advancing up on them.
“Phoebe, hurry up. We are going to be late. We were meant to be down there by now.”
“I know. I’m sorry.”
“Just hurry up.”
Phoebe and Piper rushed down the stairs not bothering to use the lift. To the group of people stood in the foyer.
“Sorry we are late.” Piper said to the teachers.
“Not a problem, just don’t make a habit out of it.”
Both Piper and Phoebe nodded their heads, as the Teachers led them out of the door. On their late night walk.
Piper looked for Prue and saw her looking directly at them, angrily.
“Umm Pheebs.” Piper whispered. “I think we have peed Prue off.” Phoebe didn’t reply. “Phoebe?”
Phoebe just nodded her head, telling Piper to look behind her.
Piper gulped as she saw Prue standing behind her. “Hi Prue.”
“How come you were late?”
Piper paused, not wanting to tell Prue the real reason. “We couldn’t find the key card. But we eventually did.”
Prue looked at them suspiciously. “Don’t make a habit out of it again.” Piper breathed a sigh of relief.
“We won’t Prue.”
Prue draped an arm around Piper and grabbed Phoebe’s hand. “So how you two enjoying skiing. I haven’t really seen you two lately. Well not long enough to talk to you.”
Phoebe looked up. “Love it.”
Piper laughed “Same here. You”
“Yeah it’s good. It’s a shame Andrew couldn’t come.”
Piper nodded her head. “Yeah Prue. But he can’t help it when his Parents book a family holiday.”
The little chitchat continued as they walked around the resort. Prue turned to talk to Phoebe, to see why she was being so quiet. When she got a face full of snow.
“Argh!” Prue screamed.
Phoebe and Piper just laughed. Prue wiped the snow away and glared at Phoebe, bending down.
Phoebe knowing what was coming, started to back up. “I’m sorry Prue. I didn’t mean it.”
Prue packed the snow in her hand. “Too late for that Phoebe.” Prue fired the snowball at Phoebe’s head.
Phoebe ducked and stuck her tongue out at her. But she didn’t see the other snowball in Prue’s hand the one that hit her square on the forehead. Prue burst out laughing. Phoebe not wanting to be out done gathered some snow and threw it at Prue. What followed was a full-scale snowball fight with the sisters.
“GIRLS!”
Prue, Piper and Phoebe stopped what they were doing and looked to where the voice had come from. “What do you think you are doing?” Mrs Farrell, the teacher in charge, shouted.
Prue looked at Piper then at Phoebe. She didn’t know what to say.
“Girls? I want an explanation.”
Phoebe looked up at the teacher and smiled. Prue saw this and tried to stop her, with no success. “We were having a snow ball fight.”
“I figured that much young lady. But why? We are on a walk and I turn round and see you all yards behind us, throwing snow at one another.”
“We got bored. We wanted to have fun, walking is not fun. Especially in the dark when you can’t see anything. So we thought we would make it fun.” Phoebe cheekily replied. Prue nudged Phoebe to tell her to stop.
“Miss Halliwell, you will do good to hold your tongue. I had heard you were rude, but I did not think to question it. I do not want to hear another bad thing about you for the rest of this trip, if I do then there will be no more skiing.”
Phoebe just stared at Mrs Farrell. “But... But...”
Mrs Farrell pointed her finger. “A ha Miss Halliwell.”
Phoebe couldn’t believe what she had heard. She had to behave or no more skiing. She was going to shout when she felt a hand on her shoulder to calm her down.
“Don’t worry Pheebs, she can’t do that. We have paid. But be careful when you go to High school.” Prue whispered as Mrs Farrell walked back to the rest of the group indicating that the girls should follow.
“Why?” Phoebe asked innocently.
Prue laughed. “Because she is going to hold this against you for the rest of your life!”
“No way!” Phoebe proclaimed shocked.
Prue just nodded her head and kept laughing.
“Umm guys, come on if we don’t catch up we are going to loose them.” Piper pointed out.
The next morning, Phoebe was dressed and down for breakfast in record time. The reason being she didn’t want to give Mrs Farrell anymore reasons to hate her.
“Wow Pheebs. Your down early.” Piper said shocked as Phoebe came and sat down at her table.
“Hey Bec. I just didn’t want to give that silly teacher any more reason to hate me. I mean what is wrong with a snowball fight?”
“Nothing’s wrong with it. You just got to be careful when you do it. You don’t want to do it in the wrong company. Like last night.” Bec explained.
Piper nodded her head. “Yeah Pheebs. She’s right. Next time just make sure it’s not in front or behind her for that matter.”
“But it’s the only chance we get to have snowball fights. Living where we do we get no snow.” Phoebe crossed her arms. “It’s not fair.”
“What’s not fair?” A voice came from behind Phoebe. A voice he did not want to hear again.
Phoebe turned round to face her worst nightmare, the evil teacher Mrs Farrell. “Well?”
Phoebe opened her mouth to reply, but closed it and shrugged.
“Just what I thought.” Mrs Farrell turned on her heals and walked to the staff table.
“I’ve only known her for about 4 days and I already don’t like her. How am I going to cope with 5 years of her, when I go to High school?”
Piper and Bec laughed. “Just Pray that she will have left by the time you start to attend.”
“Listen up everybody.”
The chatter in the ski storeroom quietened down.
“It is snowing heavily outside, so we want you to be careful and pay attention to your instructor. If the conditions outside get any worse your instructors will bring you back even if your lesson is not over. Your safety is more important than learning to ski. That’s all.”
Everybody started to chat again. Getting excited over the prospect of new snow.
“Phoebe that’s it, well done. Your turns are coming on quite nicely now.” Laura said to Phoebe.
They had skied to a secluded area, where there were hardly any skiers, so that they could practice turns without being interrupted by snowboarders and other skiers. Also they had gone there to practice the slalom, a nursery slalom. As the last day was a day where all the skiers competed against each other. A competition to see who was the best. The chance to win medals, but mostly it was just for fun.
“Right guys. I want us to practice on the slalom. I want us to win.” Laura shouted over the wind that had suddenly picked up, spraying the freshly laid snow in the air, mixing in with the snow that was falling. Causing a blizzard.
Phoebe’s group all had a turn on the slalom run. Each doing it well and getting good times.
“Right guys. I think we should get going, before this freak storm becomes any worse. I want you all to ski over to the draglifts and get yourself to the top. I will meet you there.” Laura said as she pointed in the direction.
Phoebe looked to where the draglift should be but couldn’t see it. The snow was moving to fast. It just looked like a wall in front of her. But Phoebe carried on in the direction she knew the lifts would be.
She felt two people’s presence by her side as she pushed hard against the wind.
“Hey Phoebe. You okay?” James asked. A lad in Piper’s year.
“Yeah. Well kind of. I know where I am meant to go. I just can’t see.” Phoebe admitted. “ And I’m not making any movement. The wind is to strong.”
“We are having the same problem. Don’t worry. We will stay with you.” James replied voicing a fear he knew Phoebe didn’t voice.
“We?”
“Yeah me and Alice. We are in the same predicament as you.”
Phoebe smiled knowing she had two people in the same situation as her, who were going to stay with her.
Piper walked into the lobby area of the hotel where everyone was sat around chatting, after being brought back due to the snowstorm getting worse. Piper looked around to see if she could see any familiar faces.
Piper spotted one and walked over. “Hey Prue.” Piper greeted.
“Hey. Shit weather huh?”
“Yeah. You seen Phoebe?”
“Nope not yet. I don’t think her group have come back yet. Give it some time.”
Piper looked around. “Okay.”
Piper sat slouched on the sofas in the lobby/Bar area. It had been nearly an hour since she had returned. Nearly an hour and no sign of Phoebe and no let up of the weather.
“Prue?” Piper tapped her.
Prue turned around, her eyes hard but when she saw it was Piper she softened her appearance. “Yeah Pip?”
“It’s nearly been an hour since I returned. And Phoebe isn’t back yet, an hour Prue and the weather hasn’t calmed down its gotten worse.”
Prue looked at her watch. “Give it 15 more minutes. If she hasn’t returned by then, we’ll go and see where she is. Okay?”
Piper looked down at her feet. “Yeah okay.”
“Hey Piper.”
Piper looked up, expecting to see Phoebe standing there. But it wasn’t. “Oh hey Bec.”
“Don’t sound to happy to see me.”
Piper sighed. “It’s not that. It’s just that Phoebe isn’t back yet.”
Bec looked confused. “But she must be. Laura’s over in the restaurant talking with the other instructors.”
Piper just looked at Bec. Not sure what to say, if she could say anything. Her eyes scanned the lobby area. Looking for Phoebe.
“Prue.”
Prue turned around and saw the worry in Piper’s face. “Piper, I said give it 15 minutes.”
“But Prue. Laura’s in the restaurant and Phoebe is no where in site.”
Prue looked concerned. “What do you mean Laura is in the restaurant?”
“I just came passed there, and saw Laura talking to other instructors.” Bec replied.
Prue looked around the room, trying to see any faces she would recognise.
“Prue what do we do?” Piper asked quietly. But Prue didn’t reply. She was to busy searching. “Prue?”
“Come with me Piper.” Prue stood up and grabbed Piper’s hand.
“What? Where we going Prue?”
Prue stopped and looked at Piper. “I’m going to see Mrs Farrell. I had a look around the room and spotted a few people who are in Phoebe’s group.” Prue carried on walking. “But” Prue said stopping. “She could be in her room. Have you checked?”
Piper just shook her head.
“Okay. First we check there. Then we go to Mrs Farrell.”
Prue and Piper returned 10 minutes later. With no Phoebe.
Prue walked up to where the teachers were sat talking. “Um excuse me Mrs Farrell?”
All the teachers looked up. Piper gripped Prue’s hand tighter.
“Yes Prue?” came a snotty reply.
Prue gulped. “My sister hasn’t returned yet from skiing.”
“They are probably on their way back now. I’m sure..”
“No” Prue cut her off. “You don’t understand. My sister isn’t back but her ski instructor is.”
“What do you mean?” Mr Wilson spoke up.
“Just that Sir. Laura is back; she is in the restaurant talking to the other ski instructors. But my sister isn’t.”
“Maybe she is up in her room?”
“No, we looked. We have looked everywhere and waited to see if she came back. But she hasn’t. I scanned the room for other people in her group and I saw some. But not her.” Prue was getting angry and anxious by the minute. Why wouldn’t they believe her, that her sister was out there somewhere.
Mrs Farrell stood up, as did Mr Wilson.
“Look girls we will go and check and do a head count. So go back into the lobby area and wait for us there. Pass the word around that no one is allowed to leave that area.”
Prue nodded her head and walked back to the lobby with Piper following with tears in her eyes.
Another ten minutes passed and all the teachers and ski instructors came into the lobby.
“Right every one I want all of you to get into your ski groups please. As quick as possible. No asking why, and no fussing.”
There was a bit of commotion as everyone moved into there ski groups. The teachers gave the ski instructors a piece of paper that had everyone’s name on, that were in their groups. Mrs Farrell and Mr Wilson stood around Laura’s group awaiting the news. But they could already tell that Phoebe wasn’t there.
“Well?” Mrs Farrell asked.
Laura looked down at the bit of paper in her hand, then back up at the teachers. “I’ve counted 7.”
“Who haven’t you counted?” Mr Wilson asked sharply, loosing his temper.
Laura looked away, and then back at the teachers. “Phoebe Halliwell, James Morgan and Alice Thomas.”
There was murmuring among the staff and pupils when they heard this.
“Well were are they Miss Cox?” The chief ski instructor asked. He had been phoned, and told to come straight away.
Laura looked upset. She hadn’t meant for this to happen. “I.. I .. don’t know.”
“That isn’t good enough.”
The teachers knowing that the pupils did not need to hear this. “Right Children. I would like you all to go to your rooms and wait there until we come for you.” Seeing that no one was moving Mr Wilson spoke up.
“Anyone that does not go now, will have a whole weeks detention when we return to school.”
Loud moans and frustrated sighs followed this announcement but got the children moving towards the lift and the stairs. All except Prue and Piper.
“Prue, Piper that means you to.” Mrs Farrell said in a harsh voice.
Prue looked shocked, as did Piper.
“Leave them be Susan. It is there sister that is missing. Least you could is show some sympathy.” Mr Wilson voiced his dismay.
Mrs Farrell just sighed and looked away.
“Laura. Where did you see them last.”
“We were down practicing the slalom, by the drag lifts. When the weather got bad. Everyone had one go on the run before I told them to head to the drag lifts and I would meet them at the top.”
“So you are telling me, that you left a group of absolute beginners to make their own way to the drag lifts. In weather that is as server as this?”
Laura didn’t say anything.
“Well??” Laura just nodded her head. “Didn’t you even count them when they got to the top? To make sure they were all there?”
Laura shook her head. “It was getting worse. I didn’t think about that. All I wanted to do was get the children back here as soon as possible.”
“Well you did a damn good job with that didn’t you!” Mr Wilson screamed.
Prue and Piper just stood there, taking everything in. knowing that there sister was lost somewhere, in the stormy weather.
“Sir, we need to go look for them”
Mr Wilson looked at Prue. “Prue, we will go look for them. I want you to stay here.”
“But..”
“No buts Prue. Piper needs you. You need each other. I promise I will bring your sister back here.”
Prue just nodded her head in defeat and lead Piper away to the couch where they had previously been sitting.
“Let me come with you.” Laura spoke up.
“No! You are not going anywhere near those kids again.”
“But I can help.”
“Don’t you think you have done enough for today?” Mr Wilson shouted.
Laura looked to her boss. “He’s right Laura. I want you to go home and rest. There may be an investigation into this. So just go home. Ninka will go with you.”
Laura looked to the group of people and then turned and walked away, stopping to apologise to Prue and Piper.
“I’m sorry girls. I didn’t mean for this to happen.”
“Just Get out of my sight.” Prue shouted.
Laura carried on walking, Ninka following a few paces behind her.
Prue turned to Piper and pulled her into a embrace. “Shh Piper. She will be okay.”
“Prue.” A voice spoke softly to her. Prue looked up to find Mrs Farrell standing there. “Look we are going now, we just want to tell you that we will bring your sister back. And that I’m sorry for being so harsh.”
Prue just nodded her head. She couldn’t do anything else.
“Thank you.” Piper spoke up.
Mrs Farrell gave them a smile before turning around and rejoining the 4 teachers and 4 Ski instructors that were going on the search.
“Piper.” Prue spoke up after a minute of silence, as they watched the teachers walk away.
Piper looked at Prue. “Yeah?”
“I want you to go up to the room and stay there till I come back.”
“Why where are you going?” Piper asked cutting in.
“I’m going to find Phoebe.”
“But the teachers are gone, and they told you to stay here.”
“I know they did. But if I go now, I catch them up.”
“But Prue.”
“Piper, please. Phoebe is out there somewhere. I want to be there when they find her. To make sure she is safe and so she has someone familiar with her.” Prue stood up.
Piper just nodded her head. “Okay.”
“Thanks Piper.”
“But I’m coming with you.” Piper stood up also.
“No, you need to be here.”
“I don’t need to be here. I’m coming Prue.” Prue was about to say something but Piper again cut her off. “If your going Prue, I have every right to go also.”
Prue sighed she knew she wouldn’t win this argument. “Okay. Come on.”
“So Laura said that she had last seen them near the drag lifts?” Mr Wilson asked, battling against the wind.
“Yes. Its just this way.”
All the adults followed carefully, making sure they kept only one pace behind the person in front of them.
“Rick, Tom I want you to go over there and get some help. Go phone the mountain rescue team. Tell them we have three missing kids and we need help finding them. Tell them our location, where we are heading and ask how long they will be. Then go get a Ski-doo between you. We will meet you by the drag lifts.” Tom and Rick ran off to the mountain rescue base phone. “Everyone else follow me, we need some ski-doo’s (snow mobiles) to get to where we are going. So we just need to make a stop and get some.” The ski chief said.
“Right everyone, I want two on each one. I will take one by myself and so will Liam.”
“What about us?” A voice spoke up. Everyone turned to see who had spoken.
“Prue. Piper! What are you doing here? I told you both to stay back at the hotel.” Mr Wilson spoke.
“She’s our sister sir. No chance are we just going to wait around. We need to be there for her.”
Mr Wilson just shook his head and sighed. “Fine. Prue you hop onto the ski-doo with me. And Piper you hop on with Miss Bailey.”
The teachers that were sharing the ski-doo’s with the two teachers got off and got onto another one.
“Right lets get going.”
All the ski-doo’s followed one another along the pistes to where the drag lifts were. By the time they had reached the drag lifts the weather had calmed a bit.
“I want everyone in fours.” The ski chief spoke up as he got off of his ski mobile. “Then I want you each to search for the missing children. Here is a walk-e-talkie for each group, if you find anything, anything at all don’t hesitate to use it. And also a map. With the location of the drag lifts circled. And the area which will need to be searched. We will meet back here in 20 minutes. The time now is 12:35pm.”
Prue and Piper went with Mr Wilson and Mrs Farrell, towards the woods.
“Prue I know what you said, and I understand. But we told you to stay at the hotel. Its to dangerous to be out here.”
“I know. But she’s my sister.” Prue gripped Pipers hand tighter.
“I know. And we will get her back. Come on.”
The four trudged through the snow, occasionally stumbling now and then when they walked through a deep patch of snow.
“Piper are you okay?” Prue asked as she felt Piper pulling on her arm. “Piper?”
Piper was staring off into the trees. “There’s someone approaching Prue.”
Prue looked to where Piper was looking. “Mr Wilson!” Prue shouted.
Mr Wilson turned around. “What is it Prue?”
“There’s someone approaching from the trees.”
Mr Wilson turned around to look at the trees, and the advancing figure.
The figure kept running towards them, dodging the trees. The figure wasn’t slowing down.
Mr Wilson kept his eyes on the advancing figure. “Oh God.” He took off running towards it. Prue and Piper followed.
Mr Wilson caught the figure, a person, a girl. “Woah. Your okay, your okay.” He tried to soothe.
The person kept wiggling. “No please.” The person gasped. “ I need to get help. Let me go!”
“Hey!” Mr Wilson shook the person gently. “Hey! You have found help.”
The person stopped wriggling and looked up. “Mr Wilson?”
“Yeah its me. Alice I’m guessing?” The girl just nodded. “Who do you need to get help for?”
“For..For Phoebe and f f for Thomas.”
“What’s happened to them?” Mr Wilson asked, holding a hand to stop Prue or Piper from speaking.
Alice took a deep breath then looked him in the eye. “Laura left us to fend for ourselves. Me and James were together and we came across Phoebe, who wasn’t doing to good. The wind was just too strong. We made a wrong turn or something and we got lost. We we we were walking slowly when there was a crash. We had walked across some ice. They both fell in. James managed to get himself out. Phoebe.. we need to go help. Please come on.” Alice turned; wiping her tears and ran back in the direction she had come from. Prue, Piper and Mr Wilson following close behind.
“Susan. We need you and everyone else down to the lake. Now! Get the paramedics. The children have fallen through ice.” Mr Wilson shouted through his walkie talkie.
Prue and Piper ran behind Mr Wilson. They were petrified. All they had heard was Phoebe, ice, fell, they didn’t hear anything else. They couldn’t process anything else. They knew their baby sister was in trouble and they had to get to her as soon as possible or else. No they couldn’t think like that, they had to stay positive, if they didn’t then all hope would be lost. They couldn’t, no wouldn’t loose Phoebe.
Mr Wilson stopped in front of them. Prue and Piper slowed down. But walked past him. They couldn’t believe what they were seeing. They couldn’t stop their tears from falling down their face. Because there in front of them was James, lying on his side with his arm over the side of the bank into the water, holding, supporting Phoebe.
“Oh god Phoebe.” Piper whispered.
Prue ran forward to the edge and grabbed the hold of Phoebe off of James, while Mr Wilson helped him up and away from the waters edge. Prue couldn’t believe how cold Phoebe was. Her little sister was so small, so cold, so blue. Prue wouldn’t take it anymore. She started to try and lift and pull Phoebe from the dangerous water. But Phoebe wouldn’t move.
“You won’t be able to lift her. Her foot is caught on something below the surface.” James got out wearily. “Me and Alice have already tried. But her boot is stuck. I’m sorry.”
Piper let herself fall to the floor. She didn’t know what to do. She had never been in this situation. Yes she had seen them, these type of situations on the discovery and other shows that had been on television, telling them off the dangers of frozen lakes and ponds. But she never in her wildest dreams thought that this would happen to them. She just couldn’t comprehend it.
Prue mean while was having a hard time. She had tried to free Phoebe by pulling her but with no luck. Phoebe had opened her brown eyes and looked at Prue. Prue couldn’t take that look. She had never wanted to see it. The look of death.
Phoebe knew she was in a bad situation, and she was beginning to give up hope. After all she had been in the water for more than 10 minutes. Most people would have fallen prey to hypothermia now. And Phoebe knew she was loosing the battle. Her strength was going and so were her hopes of seeing her Grams and her friends again. And being held by Prue and Piper. She gave a final look to Prue before her eyes closed and she let darkness take over her.
“NO! Phoebe open your eyes!” Prue shouted, shaking Phoebe. Phoebe’s eyes remained shut. “Mr Wilson!”
Mr Wilson who had been tending to James hurried over. He saw the predicament Phoebe was in with Prue supporting her head from going under the water. He took off his coat and boots talking to Prue all the time.
“Prue I need you to keep talking to Phoebe. Try and get a response from her. That is all I need you to do. It is very important you try. Even if you don’t at first keep trying. Piper.” He looked over to where she was sat. Piper looked up. “I know your sad at the moment, and don’t want to do anything. But I need you to go back the way we came. You know the way?” Piper nodded. “I need you to go signal the others over here. Its important they get here very fast. And with your help signalling them they will get here very quick and we will be able to help your sister faster.”
Piper took off giving Prue a silent plea, to make sure nothing happened to her and that she would be back as soon as possible. “I love you Phoebe” Piper whispered as she ran past her.
Prue looked to Mr Wilson. “Sir what. . . What are you doing?”
“Her foot is stuck Prue. We need to get it unstuck. Just keep her head above water. And talk to her. Reassure her that everything will be okay. Can you do that for me?”
Prue, like Piper just nodded her head. Mr Wilson took a deep breath then let it out before he jumped into the icy cold water. He had a been a boy scout in his youth and he had been told never to take deep breaths when diving in cold water. As that would only shorten his air as the cold would hit him to hard.
Mr Wilson dove down under the water, using a flash light they had all been given at the start of the search.
Prue tried to wake Phoebe, with no success. She knew Phoebe had given up hope. She had seen her eyes. All Prue could now do was pray as Mr Wilson struggled to free Phoebe’s foot and Piper ran to get help.
“Phoebe when we get home. Me and Piper are going to pamper you till you are all better. We will give you loads of chocolate, crisps, and also I’ll make sure Piper makes your favourite pancakes. But that is only if you open your eyes for me Pheebs. Please open your eyes. Let me see your smile again. I love you Phoebe, I never have told you that. But I do. And I may not have shown it over the years. But I love you with all my heart. Please wake up baby. Please.”
Prue let her tears fall as Phoebe still remained unresponsive. But she quickly wiped them away as fast as they came, as she heard a commotion coming from where Piper had taken off. Prue listened carefully trying to work out what was going on.
“Come on. Faster. My sister is in the lake. Please hurry up.” Piper shouted to the group of teachers and ski instructors who were making there way through the dense forest and deep snow.
Piper came out of the forest into the clearing where the lake was. The people following her. A few of the teachers and ski instructors went to assist James who was leaning on a tree with Mr Wilson’s coat wrapped around him. The others went other to help Prue and Mr Wilson who had come up for breathe a few times. Having no luck freeing Phoebe’s foot.
Mr Wilson dived back down. He was growing weary but he still carried on. He needed to get Phoebes foot loose.
Prue was still holding Phoebe, some of the teachers and ski instructors had tried to take over but Prue would not let them. She needed to be with her sister. Piper was by her side gripping Prue’s free hand.
A noise came from the forest again. Everyone looked over and saw the mountain rescue team come through. They took note of the scene and got to work straight away.
Mr Wilson broke free of the water, gasping for breath that wouldn’t come. The mountain rescue team pulled him out of the water and dragged him away from the lake’s edge. He was trying to say something but nothing was coming out of his mouth.
Prue saw him trying to say something, his eyes staring straight at hers. Prue quickly turned back to Phoebe and pulled. She was rewarded by Phoebe moving. Piper saw this also and shouted for the mountain rescue team to help.
They hurried over to her side and two of them pulled Phoebe free of the water, while another one was waiting with a foil blanket.
Two men pulled Phoebe out of the water and hurried over to the man with the foil blanket. Taking her coat off as they ran. They wrapped Phoebe in the foil blanket and placed her on the ski-doo.
“Girls we need to get your sister, James and Mr Wilson to the hospital straight away. We have a helicopter coming for them up on top of the hill. We have a car waiting for you at your hotel.” One of the mountain rescue team men said.
Prue wrapped her arm around Piper, who had her head resting on her shoulder. “Okay.”
Prue and Piper looked on as the men took their sister away, to the safety of the hospital. They prayed that she would awaken and that she would be fine.
** a couple of hours later**
Prue and Piper had arrived at the hospital, along with Ms Farrell, an hour after Phoebe had been freed. They were waiting anxiously for news on their sister. They knew she wasn’t in very good shape when she had been pulled out of the water. Prue was about to get up and take Piper to get something to eat when a doctor walked out.
“Halliwell?” The doctor looked around. Prue made eye contact with the Doctor signalling that they were the ones he was looking for. “If you would like to follow me.”
The doctor stood up, Piper and Prue followed, when Prue turned around. Mrs Farrell was standing still.
“Miss?”
Mrs Farrell shook her head. “No Prue. Phoebe is your sister. You go ahead. I will keep trying to contact your grandmother.”
“Okay. Thank you.”
Mrs Farrell smiled back.
The Doctor held the door open for them, Prue followed Piper in the room and sat down on the sofa.
“I’m Doctor Thomas. I’ve been treating your sister since she was brought in.”
“How is she?” Prue asked.
“When Phoebe was brought in her core temperature was below 35 degrees. Hypothermia sets in below this. We are trying to warm your sister up, to increase her core temperature to what it should be. Phoebe will develop a fever as her temperature warms up. We need to keep a close eye on this and monitor the fluids and antibiotics she will be receiving to counter it. We can’t have her temperature going to high. When she wakes up, she might be delusional to not be alarmed.” Doctor Stone paused trying to see whether the young girls in front of him were grasping what he was saying. “While checking for other injuries we found that she has also sprained her right ankle. She also has scrapes and bruises over parts of her body. A particularly nasty one to her face, where I believe her ski has hit her.”
“C c can we see her?” Piper asked quietly.
Doctor Thomas nodded his head.
Prue and Piper had been sitting at their sisters bedside for a couple of hours. Mrs Farrell had been in to give them information on James, who was going to be okay. But just needed to stay over night for observation, and Mr Wilson, who was in a room on the floor above in a similar condition to Phoebe, but was awake. Mrs Farrell also gave them the bad news that she still had not been able to reach their grandmother but she would keep trying as she went back to the hotel to give the rest of the students and teachers the news that everyone would be okay. Both Prue and Piper had been grateful for her change of attitude, they realised that she was just a normal caring person who just let the power of being a teacher go to her head.
“Prue?’
Prue looked up from where her head was resting on the bed. “Yeah sweetie?’
Piper had tears running down her face. “I’m scared Prue.” She said quietly.
“Why Piper? You heard the doctor she is going to be fine. Her body just needs to rest and recuperate.”
“I know. It’s just that she looks so helpless lying there. I want to be able to do something for her. But I feel like I can’t.”
Prue stood up and made her way round the bed to her sister. “Shh Pipe. Just being here is helping her Piper. She knows you are here. And that is what is helping her to get better. So she can come back and follow you around.” Prue laughed, causing Piper to do so too.
“And to come back and be a pain in your arse too.” Piper stated.
“Yep, we all know how much she loves to do that.”
Prue pulled Piper into a hug. “Go to sleep sweetie. I’ll still be here and so will Phoebe. Just go to sleep. Use me as a cushion. I don’t mind.”
Piper lent her head on Prue’s shoulder and let her eyes close to the sleep she had been so hard fighting.
Piper woke up a few hours later finding that she was alone, not resting on Prue anymore. “Prue?” Piper whispered. No answer came. “Prue.” Piper tried a bit louder as she stood up. Piper began walking around the room when the door open.
“Hey Piper.”
Piper turned around, relief evident on her face. “Where you been?”
“I just went to get us some coffee.” Prue said as she set them down on the table next to the bed. “I figured you would be waking up soon.”
Piper smiled. “Thanks. Did you get any sleep?”
“Yeah, just a bit. But enough.” Prue saw the look she was getting from Piper. “I did Piper. Oh I’ve tried to get in touch with Grams. Again no answer” Prue sighed in frustration. “I wonder where she is. She should be home.”
“Prue. She didn’t know anything bad was going to happen. She’ll be back tomorrow probably. When we are due back.”
Prue nodded her head. “I just wish we could get in contact with her. To tell her what has happened.”
“Same here.”
They were interrupted from continuing there conversation when a nurse came in followed by a doctor.
“Hello Girls.” Doctor Thomas said. “How are you this morning?”
Prue clenched her fists at the side of her. Wondering how he could ask that and be so cheerful.
“How’s our sister doing?” Piper asked quietly.
Doctor Thomas was taking some notes down, reading the monitors that surrounded Phoebe. “She is making a steady recovery. Her temperature is just a little high at the moment.”
“How high?” Prue asked.
“39 decrees Centigrade. It should be about 37.5. I must say though, that your sister is extremely lucky. This time of year things are starting to warm up. So the water wouldn’t have been as cold as it would have been, say two months ago.”
Prue ignored him, her sister hadn’t been lucky, she had been unlucky to get stuck with a bad ski instructor, unlucky to get lost in a blizzard, unlucky to find her self on ice, unlucky to have fallen through and unlucky that she was now here. But Prue knew she had been lucky that her injuries weren’t that bad.
“Doctor how are her other injuries?” Piper asked seeming to know what Prue was thinking.
“Her ankle is healing nicely but it will be tender for a few weeks. Her cuts and bruises should heal in no time. As for the nasty looking bruise on her face, that will take some time to heal, she was lucky it wasn’t an inch higher or she would have been blinded.” Doctor Thomas stopped suddenly. “I’m sorry girls for being so blunt, but your sister is very lucky to be alive after being in that water for so long and to come out with little or no injuries is amazing.”
“Why hasn’t she woken up yet Doctor if she is so lucky to be alive?” Prue asked harshly, the worrying and no sleep catching up on her.
“Prue!”
Prue sighed. “I’m sorry Doctor.”
“Its okay. I understand how you feel. And to answer your question, I believe your sister is just letting her body rest and her mind. She went through a tough and tiring experience that no one should go through, she is just letting it rest and heal itself.”
“How long do you think before she wakes up?” Prue asked.
“I believe she should be waking up in the next 48 hours. That will have given her enough time to let her body and mind recover.”
“Thank you doctor.”
“No problem. If you have any more questions just ask my self or a nurse that will be popping in every few hours to check her vitals. Good day ladies.” Doctor Thomas walked out of the room leaving the nurse to check Phoebe’s vitals.
Prue and Piper went to sit on the chairs at the side of her bed. “Is good to hear that Mr Wilson and James are going to be okay.”
“Yeah Piper it is. We will have to go see Mr Wilson and thank him for saving our baby sister.”
Piper just nodded her head. “Should we go now Prue. I mean he is awake and I think it would be better to do it now while Phoebe is still asleep, that way we don’t have to leave her when she is awake.”
“Sure Piper.”
Prue and Piper knocked on the door of Mr Wilson’ room.
“Come in” came a voice.
Prue led the way into the room. “Hi Mr Wilson. We just wanted to come and see how you are. And to say thank you for saving our sister.” Prue rambled off.
Mr Wilson chuckled. “Your welcome Prue, but it’s a teachers duty to take care of the pupils, in any situation. I’m not saying everyone would have done what I did, but I did what needed to be done. As to how I am. I’m fine, just a slight temperature but nothing to worry about. In fact I get to get out of this place tomorrow. How’s Phoebe?”
Piper gripped Prue’s hand. Piper was still shy when it came to talking to people even if the teacher was a respected person at their school.
“She’s got a few cuts and bruises. And a badly sprained ankle. Other than that we don’t know. She hasn’t woken up yet.”
“Don’t worry girls, she will. I have heard what a little devil she is from her teacher at the junior school. She is a good friend of mine. And is always telling me tales about the children in her class especially Phoebe.” Mr Wilson laughed. Prue and Piper just smiled. “I reckon she will wake up soon. She won’t want to miss out on terrorizing people.”
“That she won’t” Prue had to agree. “I’m sorry Mr Wilson but we better get back. In case she wakes up.”
“Not a problem Prue, Piper. Thank you for coming to see me. If I don’t see you before we depart, as my fiancé is coming to collect me, then I will see you back at school.”
“Bye”
Prue and Piper made there way back to their sisters room, but stopped upon seeing the commotion that was happening inside their baby sisters room.
Prue and Piper stopped dead in their tracks as they saw nurses and doctors rushing into Phoebe’s room.
Prue took in the scene then made her way towards the room. She couldn’t see her baby sister for the doctor that was leaning over her.
“Doctor?”
The doctor turned around. “Ah Prue.”
“What happened?
Doctor Thomas walked towards Prue. “Nothing to worry about Prue. All that happened was that Phoebe had knocked off one of her monitors.”
Prue frowned. “Knocked off?”
“Yes. It would appear that she woke up and was disorientated to where she was. And with her moving about, she accidentally knocked one of the electrodes off that monitor her heart.”
“She woke up?”
“Yes. And I believe she is awake now. And waiting for you two.” Doctor Thomas smiled.
Prue turned to Piper, whose face had lit up. “She has woken up?” Piper whispered in disbelief.
Prue just nodded her head and held her hand out for Piper to take.
Doctor Thomas left them alone after the nurses had checked all of Phoebe’s vitals.
Prue opened the door and motioned Piper to go in first.
“Hey Phoebe.” Piper spoke as she walked into the room.
Phoebe looked towards the door. And smiled.
“How you feeling?” Prue asked as she went and sat next to her.
“Okay I guess. Just a bit tired. And sore.”
“Well that’s to be expected. Did the doctor tell you anything?”
Phoebe shook her head. “I can’t remember what happened just snippets of it.”
Piper held Phoebe’s hand. “What do you remember sweetie?”
“I remember being left, then James and Alice coming up behind me, struggling against the wind like me. Wait are they okay? James and Alice?”
“Yeah sweetie. Alice is back at the hotel and James has just been discharged.”
“Oh. At least they are okay.” Phoebe smiled. “Well I remember that then walking through a forest. We wanted to have some shelter until the winds died down but it wasn’t working so we started walking again, by this time we had taken out skis off as the snow was just to deep and we kept falling through it. Though we didn’t fare any different when we had taken our skis off. Well we were walking then next thing I know is I am very cold and wet. Then I remember seeing you Prue. And then I’m here. What happened?” Phoebe looked puzzled she had an idea but she couldn’t understand how she was alive if what happened, happened.
“You fell in the lake sweetie. You were crossing over it, and the ice broke. You fell through.”
“B.. But how am I alive? I mean many people have fallen through ice and died.”
“I don’t know Pheebs. Must have been that strength of yours.” Piper spoke up.
Phoebe just nodded. Her eyes drifting shut.
“Go to sleep honey we will be here when you wake up, then maybe we can get you out of here” Prue spoke gently as she stroked Phoebe’s hair.
A couple of hours later Phoebe was still asleep and Prue and Piper were talking quietly.
“So has the doctor said when we can get her out of here?”
Prue shook her head. “Nope not yet. Her wants to see how she is doing when she wakes up. Then he will decide.”
“But Prue. We leave tomorrow morning. How are we going to get back to San Francisco if they go with out us?”
“Don’t worry Pipe. They won’t.” Prue was interrupted by a knock at the door.
Prue stood up and opened it to find Laura, Phoebe’s ski instructor, there.
Prue just looked at her coldly. “What do you want?”
Laura felt intimidated. “I just came to see how Phoebe is.”
“You don’t deserve to know how she is doing.”
“Look Prue. I deserve this. I just want you and Piper to know how sorry I am. I am so ashamed of what I have done. I didn’t mean for anything bad to happen. But I admit it, I didn’t do a head count, I didn’t wait for everyone to get up, I left them to fight by themselves because I was too selfish. The wind was getting up and all I could think about doing was getting back to the hotel and resting with a nice cup of hot chocolate. I’m sorry.”
Prue didn’t say anything. She just kept looking at her.
“Prue?” Piper spoke as she walked up to her.
“Yeah Piper?”
“Phoebe wants you.” Prue turned to look at Phoebe, who was wide-awake after the little outburst by Prue and Laura.
“Yeah sweetie?” Prue asked as she went to the side of the bed. Leaving Piper with Laura at the door. Not allowing her to come any further.
“What’s up Phoebe?” Prue asked gently.
“Let her come in.”
“But Phoebe?”
“No Prue please.”
“But Phoebe. What she did to you.”
“I know. You might not think I am old enough. Being only ten but I understand what happened.”
Prue sighed. “Okay I guess if that is what you want. I can’t argue with your wishes.”
“Thank you.”
Prue walked over to Piper, and whispered in her ear. “Okay. See you in a little while Pheebs.” Piper walked out the door. Prue followed Piper through the door, briefly talking to Laura.
“This is Phoebe who wants to see you. If it was me. I wouldn’t let you. So if you do anything more to hurt her” Prue trailed off.
“I won’t Prue and thank you.”
“Don’t thank me yet.” Prue walked out the door closing it behind her.
Laura stood there just looking at Phoebe.
“Hi.” Phoebe whispered.
“Hello. Umm how are you?”
“I’m okay.”
“Phoebe..”
“Don’t I want you to hear me out, as I told Prue I know what I am talking about, I may only be ten but having sisters opens your mind to things that you shouldn’t be thinking about yet. So just listen.” Laura took a seat at the foot of the bed. “I want to know why. Why you left us to fend for ourselves? It is your job to look out for us. Look after us to make sure nothing like this happened. I know it was bad weather but that is still no excuse. You left us. Kids to get out of there by themselves. And I just want to know why?”
Laura sighed she didn’t know how to explain herself. Yes she had done something bad and yes she was paying for it. But she didn’t know what to say.
Prue and Piper were down in the hospital canteen talking.
“Prue. Time won’t go any faster.” Piper said, taking note that Prue kept checking her watch.
Prue sighed. “I know Piper. But I don’t want Laura anywhere near Phoebe. Not after what she has done.”
“Prue, she has explained herself to you and now she is doing the same with Phoebe.”
“What you saying that I should forgive and forget?”
“We don’t have to forgive just yet, but we can forget it.”
“How can we? When Phoebe is upstairs in a hospital bed.”
“Who is going to fine.”
“Piper. I will not forgive and forget this quickly. It will take time. But the sooner we get out of here the better. I’m going to go talk to Phoebe’s doctor. You coming?”
Piper stood up. “Yeah.”
Meanwhile in Phoebe’s room.
“So what your saying is that you were just thinking about yourself? About how you just wanted to get back to the hotel as soon as possible. How selfish is that!?”
“I’m sorry Phoebe.”
Phoebe interrupted her. “I know you are, but sorry doesn’t make up for what you did. I’m only a kid. A kid! And you left me and two others to fend for themselves, in a place unknown to them. That is irresponsible and completely selfish.”
“I know Phoebe. And all I can do is apologise over and over. But nothing can change what happened and nothing can change what I am feeling right now.” Laura looked down. “I’m sorry. I hope you get better soon Phoebe. And I hope this hasn’t deterred you from skiing again. My mistake shouldn’t stop you from skiing again.” Laura stood up and walked to the door.
“Laura.” Phoebe called to her. Laura turned around. “I just want you to know that I forgive you.”
Laura smiled, nodded her head in a silent thank you and left.
“Hey Phoebe!” Piper called cheerily into the room.
Phoebe opened her eyes and looked to the door. “Hey Piper. Where’s Prue?”
“Prue is right here.” Prue said walking into the room followed by the doctor.
“Hello.” Phoebe spoke politely to the doctor.
“Hello Phoebe. I just want to run some tests to determine when you can go home.”
“Home.”
“Yes, just as soon as I finish running some tests.”
The doctor went about his business checking Phoebe over, testing her reflexes, motor skills and also memory. Leaving a nurse to check the monitors. The doctor came back in 5 minutes after he left, with a pair of crutches.
Prue and Piper had both been to busy talking to Phoebe to notice the doctor walk into the room, but as soon as Phoebe’s eyes lit up they turned around. Laughing when they saw what had gotten their sister so excited.
The doctor looked puzzled.
“Sorry doctor. Phoebe’s always wanted some crutches.” Prue explained.
“Well it looks like she has gotten two wishes today.” Doctor Thomas smiled.
“Two?” Phoebe asked confused.
“Yes two. One being these crutches. The second being this.” The doctor pulled out some papers form behind his back.
Phoebe’s smile grew bigger as she knew what them papers were release papers.
“So Phoebe. We have made an appointment for you at SFMH in two weeks time, for you to be checked over and make sure everything is okay.” Doctor Thomas smiled. Looking at his patient in the wheel chair smiling happily. “Take care and I never want to see you in here again.” He laughed.
“Thank you doctor.” All three girls spoke in unison.
“My pleasure. Take care and have a safe journey home.”
Prue and Piper wheeled Phoebe out of the hospital to the waiting coach that was waiting along with all the other students to take them back to San Francisco.
“James. Alice” Phoebe yelled as she saw them sitting on the coach steps.
Both of them looked up when they heard a familiar voice, “Phoebe!”
They each asked each other how the other one was as they boarded the coach.
As the coach got on the way back to San Francisco, Phoebe could be seen chatting away to her two new found friends, with Piper sitting beside her and Prue at the back with her friends.
Things were defiantly back to normal.
