*The lights come up on a new set. Two overstuffed recliners sit kitty corner to each other, a small table with cups sits between them.*
Hello all and welcome to yet another edition of Spellbound. Today my guest is none other the Tim. He is the moderator of 'Everything Charmed' as well as having his own site 'Tim's Rex and Hannah Website'. Please help me welcome him
*loud applause*
Adri: Hi Tim, and thank you for joining us today. How are you today?
Tim: Fine, thanks for having me.
Adri: As you might have noticed, I like to get a little personal information first. Mind if I ask, how old are you, and where do you live? *state or country only please, no town names*
Tim: Well I just turned 36 on Monday, October 28th. I live in Canada, the province of Ontario. I have lived here all my life.
Adri: Can you tell us a little about your family? Are you married or do you have any brothers and sisters?
Tim: am an only child, and I live at home with my mother. My father died 12 years ago. I am not yet married, but I do have a girlfriend, her name is Kate. She and I have been dating for almost a year now.
Adri: What interests or hobbies do you have?
Tim: love science fiction, particularly Star Trek. I have been a Star Trek fan since the mid-1970's. I have enjoyed every incarnation of Star Trek since then. Also I have enjoyed science fiction novels, especially those of two men I have much admired: H.G. Wells, and Jules Verne.
I have even tried to have a science fiction story I have written myself published, unfortunately, I have had no success doing so. The story is set on a colony on the Moon in the early 22nd Century. Hopefully someday, I will find a publisher.
Adri: What do you do for work?
Tim: Well I guess you can say I am between jobs right now. That is why I can spend so much time online! LOL!
Adri: If you could have any job, what would be the ideal job for you?
Tim: I would really like to be a writer. I have written a few non-Charmed stories, even one as I pointed out before, that I have tried to get published. A writing career is something I think I would really enjoy.
Adri: Who or what has had the greatest impact on your life?
Tim: Right now, I can't really say.
Adri: I would like to move on to some questions about Charmed now. What about the show drew you to it at first?
Tim: Well I am one of the fans that started watching the show when it premiered back in 1998. I was really just curious about the stars of the show. I knew Alyssa Milano from her work on Who's The Boss? Shannen Doherty I had seen in the movie "Heathers", plus I have heard the stories about her. Holly, I had never really known about until that point.
Well after watching the first episode, I was hooked. I really found myself enjoying this show. Later, I encountered the world of Charmed Online Fandom, and the rest, as they say, is history.
Adri: What do you feel is needed to bring the show back to the way it was original intended to be? A show about three sisters who happen to be witches?
Tim: Well that is a tough question to answer, because it is a double edge sword. Some will say that taking the show back to its original format is a step backwards, while others say it will save the show.
I really felt the show got too dark last season with the whole Phoebe/Cole/Source in the Underworld thing. It got too much like Buffy. Now I don't want to knock Buffy, but it is a totally different show. Charmed was, in it's earlier seasons, more light hearted, and I feel that is the way it should have stayed.
Furthermore, I feel that they should have never shown us the Source. It destroyed the mystery. When the Source was heard about, but never seen, he sounded scary. When we finally saw him, what did we get? A guy in a cloak! Big deal! They wrecked the whole thing.
Frankly, I don't see how they can return the show to its earlier format without raising heck with a lot of fans. It's a no win situation, I'm sad to say.
Adri: If you could write an episode, what type of ep would it be?
Tim: Tim: I would write an episode in which Rex and Hannah returned. In fact, I did write a script called The Return Of Rex and Hannah. That is how I would have opened Season Five, if I were writing the show. I really had fun writing that script, and many commented that they enjoyed reading it.
Adri: Do you feel the writers did a good job when they introduced ‘Paige’? How could it have been done better in your opinion?
Tim: I think they did okay when they brought Paige in. Considering the gun they were under when they did it. After all, the show was about the Power Of Three, and suddenly, one of the stars was gone!
The only thing that bothered me was that none of the other sisters recalled Patty giving birth to Paige. Now granted Piper and Phoebe were very young at the time, so it is possible that they don't remember. However, Prue would have been about six or seven at the time. I remember events that happened in my life when I was that age. Ironically they could have taken care of that problem by just having Grams say something like: "Prue remember Paige being born, so I had to wipe her memory of that event." That would have solved that problem, but I guess the writers just didn't think of it.
Adri: Are you for or against the idea of trying to bring Shannen back for an episode, would it work?
Tim: I would love to see Shannen return for a guest appearance. It would be nice to see Prue and Paige finally meet. I think many fans feel the same way.
Adri: Who do you grown the most as a character over the last few seasons?
Tim: Well I think Phoebe grew a lot over the past few seasons. At first she was very irresponsible and immature. Now she has grown into a woman who knows how to take responsibility in her life.
However, that being said, I do NOT like the way her character has been handled this season in regards to Cole. I feel she is being very selfish and resentful towards him. Over and over again, Cole has tried to prove he is good, and Phoebe snubs him every time. I am really beginning to dislike Phoebe in this regard, and I think the writers are handling her character all wrong. I hope they correct this soon.
Adri: What actress/actor has grown the most?
Tim: At this point, I am not sure.
Adri: Your favorite characters, why are the so interesting to you?
Tim: Rex and Hannah, of course. I always felt that these two characters had potential which was never really explored. The writers made them into two-dimensional, evil characters, with no real motivations. I felt that this was a grave injustice, so that is why I brought Rex and Hannah back in my Fan Fictions, and ultimately turned them good. I have gotten some comments from people over the years who have said they liked "my" Rex and Hannah better than those that appeared on the show.
As you know, I this year I created a website that is totally devoted to Rex and Hannah and put it up on the Net. All the information on Rex and Hannah that anyone could want is there. I had fun making the site, and now Rex and Hannah are the only Warlocks from Charmed to have their own website.
Adri: Now a few questions on fic’s. Besides the Rex/Hannah stories you have done, have you written any others?
Tim: have written some other Charmed stories as well. I co-created a character with another Charmed Fan Fic author, Denny. This characters name is Jessica Llewell. She is an immortal witch, over 300 years old. The backstory on Jessica was that she was a dear friend of Melinda Warren, but was unable to save Melinda's life. For that, Jessica made a potion to make her immortal, so she could always watch over Melinda's descendants, right up to the Charmed Ones. Jessica appeared in many of my stories, and Denny and I did a great job in developing her.
Adri: What inspires you when you write?
Tim: Well that is a hard question to answer. Sometimes the urge would just come on me and I would have to write. Mind you, Charmed really doesn't inspire me to which as much now as it did back in Seasons One and Two, when most of my stories were written. However, I do still write the odd Charmed story on occasion.
Adri: When you read a story, what type of story do you find the most interesting?
Tim: Well as I mentioned before, I am interested in Star Trek and Science Fiction stories. I have always wondered just what is out there in space, beyond our world. I hope that someday we will get out there and see for ourselves. Until that happens though, we have stories to keep up entertained. I liked reading about how one day we humans will reach for the stars.
Adri: What sister do you find you have the easiest and the hardest time writing?
Tim: For some reason I always found Piper hard to write for. I really don't know why that is, maybe she was just too complex a character at that time, or something to that nature.
Adri: When you write, do you have your stories all plotted or do you just go with it?
Tim: I have most of my stories already plotted out in my head, and all I have to do is get them down on paper. Of course, sometimes the story will change between the first and final drafts, depending on what direction I decide to take it in.
Adri: What advice would you give to another writer?
Tim: Well I guess I would say just write what you know best, be it Charmed, Science Fiction, Horror, whatever.
Adri: Well, that’s all we have time for today, I want to thank you for joining us, it’s been a pleasure getting to know you better.
Tim: Thank you, Adri. I had a great time with this interview. Take care.
Join me next week as we once again find out more about the people around the web who loved Charmed
